So then it's looking like these are our lines for the time being, until Cally and Kreids get back? ...

Gabby - Richie - Nash
Hags- Steps - Pyatt
Halpern - Powe - Boyle
Bickel - Ferriero - Asham

just a stab at it, I know I read that Torts liked Boyle on the wing too. and no way we can split up those top 2 lines like that after last game.

I think Powe has been primarily on the LW for the past couple seasons. I think that trio would line up Powe-Boyle-Halpern. Or switch Boyle and Halpern.

Rupp actually looked really good the last game and was all over the ice. The 3 min he had. He needed to up his game big time, but Torts didnt give him much time at all, even when he was playing well. If thats the case - then why not deal him?

I dont think you can underestimate the leadership Rupp gives to a team and how he is in the room, but the team has a lot of leaders and more speed was needed in my opinion.

I dont know a ton about Powe, but i remember seeing him in some Wild games i watched last season and when he was with the Flyers. Has some grit to his game, goes to the net - much more speed than Rupp. Blocks shots, HITS, PK guy, can pop in a goal here and there. Fits into what the Rangers need - has that Prust type of mentality on the forecheck which is missed this season thus far.

I think the big question with Powe is will he assimilate into the Rangers system well defensively and can he be trusted. He's got better wheels and the Rangers needed that. The Rangers scouts usually do a good job bringing in the right guys for these roles so I'm sure they've done their homework.

Upgrade? Yeah I think so... especially since the Rangers wont have to use Nash and Gabby on the PK as much. They most certainly needed this losing Dubi, Prust, Feds and Ani. - and even more so now with Cally out.

Maybe Sather was trying to pawn off Bickel in this trade hence why they continued to play him. Honestly don't see any other reason for him to be in the lineup. Hopefully this means now that Bickel gets sent down and Mashinter gets called up. That way Rangers have a heavyweight available that can actually play... Mashinter was a PPG player once upon a time in juniors and has been playing great for the Whale.

I like the deal, but I also disagree with anyone that thinks Palmieri will ever be anything more than an AHL player for us. I watch a lot of Devils games, and he was a complete non-factor for them in almost every game he played in. If Lou Lamoriello dumped him as a young, inexpensive "prospect" on a team that went to the finals, then I doubt he'll turn it around on his third team (he held out of Wild camp this season as well). Lou always gives young guys a shot when he believes in them and Palmieri just doesn't get it. Granted, the Devils acquired Marek Zidlicky (who helped the Devils a ton) for him last year, but Zidlicky was not cheap and was asking out of Minnesota. I believe DeBoer's quote about Palmieri was "This was a guy I pretty handed a top-six forward job to off the bat and he slowly worked himself out of that." Granted, Powe is interesting.

Powe is a good defensive forward. I wouldn't worry about the defensive side of his game. Although I am hoping he can bring 15-20 points in an 82 games schedule.

I honestly thought that we would have trouble getting a 6th round pick for Rupp. Speed has been greatly missing on our bottom 6. Ferriero is the only guy there who can skate.

Wow, this was surprising. I liked how Powe played with Philly, but can't really say much until I see him play a couple games. Palmieri I know nothing about.

Tough luck for Rupp, but it had to be done.

Why does Minnesota want Mike Rupp?

Powe will help the 4th line. He is a good forechecker, hits a lot and can kill penalties. Its an upgrade from Rupp. Powe's got stone hands so I dont think you will get much offense from him though.

If Powe ever scores a GWG look for an NHL.com headline to say POWEr Rangers.
I didn't think Rupp was great, but I think he was hated a little too much, it seemed like he was well liked in the locker room.

Let's all remember Rupp for his Jagr salute and two winter classic goals. Calling Jody Shelley "irrelevant." Pounding that Panthers player (name escapes me) who sucker punched DZ and for sending Bernier and Brodeur flying while getting tossed in the playoffs last season
