What we lose here is size and a guy willing to drop the gloves with anyone. We have Bickel for that, and we're not a small team anyway (even if I would have prefered a bigger dude like Skille as I mentioned earlier today).

What we gain is a guy who's better or equal to Rupp at pretty much every other facet of the game, we make our fourth line a lot faster, we send some long overdue help to CT and add a guy that can chip in on the fourth line in case of injuries too?

Not like its a major trade, but Sather sure as hell won this one.

Just doing some reading over on the wild section.

They seem to view it as a "meh" type trade. They liked Powe, but have plenty of a pk guys. And they wanted more size and toughness.

But not overly excited about the deal like we are.

Can we get a quick scouting report on both Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri?

All I know about both is when Powe played with Philly and he was a pretty heavy hitter and Palmieri played a bit with Jersey.

What type of players do we have here?

Powe -
Great Pker
Shot blocker
Hitter
good forechecker

The best way I can describe him is Callahan minus the offensive skills, although he isn't a void on offense

Palmieri -
Big kid
Will drop the gloves
Lazy
Should be a NHLer if he can put in a routine effort

This is the 3rd transaction made by the Rangers since the lockout ended. The Mashinter trade. Ferriero. Rupp deal. They tried to sign Arnott.

As I wrote last week, just a matter of time before Palmieri was gone after summer holdout and not reporting to Houston after cut

Plain and simple: #mnwild need to get bigger. Rupp makes the bottom 2 lines tougher. Powe was playing 4th line, limited role, expendable

#NYR Powe fills important hole for NYR on PK. Finished second last ssn in shorthand minutes for Minny. Also had 91 blocked shots

Similar, but I don't think Prust was ever a -20 player. Powe is faster, but doesn't drop the gloves much, as you mention, but is also much cheaper ($1.5Mn) than Prust. I like the trade:)

Minnesota last year was TERRIBLE at scoring goals. On top of that they had him playing on their 3rd/4th line which was totally devoid of any sort of offensive pressure.

It's funny. The whale started the season as a team where Christian Thomas had to fight for himself. Now they added mash and palmeri, and mcilrath is back

Rupp is a good guy and well respected in the room, but his skills have been on a steep decline. He's lost another step or two and isn't the intimidating fighter he once was. We get a guy with good wheels who can play a regular shift for us and won't be a liability. Can't complain.

question for NYR fans, why they don't call up Haley. The guy is the perfect 4th liner!

I liked this trade a lot.

I would also like to thank Mike Rupp for his performance in the Winter Classic.

I'll take this trade any day for NY. Guess I'll get to see Palmieri this weekend when the Whale take on the Ice Caps.

He has had an up and down season so far with the Whale and other players were ahead of him on the depth chart. Depending on what happens, the Rangers may call him up at some point this season. Mashinter would seem to be the better player and he is a legit heavy.

Rumors has it for Darrel Powe.

I am not going to say I called it, but, I called it

you totally did!........great freaking call..............I dont know much about Palmeri but he's young and Powe will be fine on the 4th line

Getting rid of Rupps contract for next yr is freaking stellar........Sather is the man:handclap:

Is Powe a scrapper like Prust was? Or does he not fight much?

Powe actually dropped the mitts with Prust when he was in Philly, however he is not a fighter like a Prust. He is a more of a gamer that will drop the mitts from titme to time. Think Boyle, Dubi etc. <--Not in terms of style, stritcly in terms of fighting. Not going to win fights but will answer the bell. Has fought much tougher opposition. Carkner, Dennis Bonvie, Ott all on his fight card. He also got Letand to drop the mitts as well.

Very solid move. I always liked Palmieri's skill set, so maybe he can do something and learn a little in the AHL. Powe is a good fit. And like someone said, could open up a spot for someone else to come in and play.

They must be trying to stack the Whale roster because they are trying to pull additional kids up from Whale to NYR
