He reminds me a bit of Steve Downie.

Was just about to say this.

He's a complete, utter piece of trash on the ice if you're an opposing fan. The type you actually want to see get hurt.

You think Avery got on people's nerves? Watch him in his WHL days. Complete *******.

Yeah, he will be hated by other teams, but isn't that the point? This team is too nice...

He was one of the even scoring leaders in Rockford last year... He has 4G in 7ahl games this year.

Has potential to score 10-15

I think the Rangers would take 8 if he could bring energy and throw people off their game.

I don't go to a lot of IceHogs games but Beach stood out every time on energy alone.

I haven't seen him this season.

Yes exactly. I wanted Steve Downie earlier in the year. I mistake this team for the care bears sometimes.

There is a reason that no one who wasn't a Blackhawks fan cared when he had that massive concussion a while ago.

Frankly, he's had concussion issues his whole career, really.

Now just call up Haley to play with him and we'll have the human hand grenade line. :D

Not a fan of what I'm hearing about his character, but this is still a smart move for NYR.

Guys like Mashinter are available on waivers all the time.

FWIW, these were my thoughts about him in 2008 prior to the draft:

I wouldn't take him in the 1st round.

To me, he's a 2nd round prospect now.

(because of his injury history)

Seriously?

The worst that could happen, if he doesn't get his head knocked around some more, is him being a crappy 4th liner.

Ryan Hollweg put up points in juniors. He's not as big as Beach, but look where he is now (questionable 4th liner who might've cost his team a win in the 2nd round).

There is a lot that can go wrong in Beach's development from now until he hits the NHL.

The fact that he was downright terrible in the playoffs is not something that makes me think he'll be a big-time impact player in he NHL.

I'd like to think I hit the proverbial nail on the head there

Sather is clearly trying to create a HUT filled with first round busts.

Another guy who can get the **** kicked out of him in a fight. :handclap:

Good luck to you guys, but all signs point to Beach being a bust, so I'd caution you lower your expectations if you have any.

Wow. The Rangers actually did something I told them they ought to do. I feel strange.

Like I've said countless times before, this is a low-risk situation. Beach has decent hands, is an okay fighter, and can get under the skin of opponents. If he can add a bit of crazy to the 4th line, that's something this team needs.

You and I have been touting this move for years...

As I said, lower your expectations. That might be a bit too high.

Skill-wise he can play in the NHL. It's just a mental thing for him...

I talked with some connections with his org in Sweden.

He was a perfect citizen for them under three weeks. Really well liked in the locker-room (this is a good source so its noting said just to not give reporters a story or something).

He wasn't in that good shape the first games. I caught him playing then, didn't look like he belonged in the SHL when I saw him.

He picked it up a bit later on, but they felt that he would turn into 3rd/4th lineer for them and didn't think it was fair to keep him around in a smaller role.

Character is overvalued around here. Unless he disrupts the locker room, who cares if he's a piece of ****? I hope other team hate him. If he can become a fourth line player that gets under the opposition's skin, great.

And if not, it's only Mashinter. No loss.

Ive been looking into him more since the trade, maybe he is Hollweg with hands and a shot? feel like the team could use this

or a stronger version of avery, maybe less speed

Altho Avery was older and more established when we 1st traded for him.... alota the things people are saying sound very familiar ..... and honestly Avery woke that team up and helped save the season.... If this trade can do anything similar to that even on a much much smaller scale then id call it a win
