Dude, you just rattled off three kids all under the age of 21 (with less than 50 NHL games worth of experience) and an undersized defenseman who should win the Norris this season. None of them should have to shoulder that burden. I do think Kakko and Laff will be more than capable of handling themselves in the not too distant future. They have this offseason a player or two to the roster that can take that role on.

Joel Fabaree is a young kid too. and guess what, he was the 1st one involved sticking up for his teammates.

As horrible as Wilson is this may go down as a good turning point for us long term. This may make the team realize we are too soft and figure out a way to add some good sandpaper players.
or it may cause us to draft a mcilrath type rather than a fowler or tarasenko type. I greatly worry about an overcorrection.

I think management knew well before this game.

It's pretty obvious that they knew this. Rebuilding while trying to give the young guys ice time isn't exactly the time to fill out your 3rd and 4th lines with more pricey veterans who are "hard" to play against.

Everyone is always expecting roster turnover to happen immediately. It's a gradual process. I'm sure it will be addressed to some extent in the summer as this team transitions more into one that expects to make the playoffs.

You really want Laff and Kakko fighting? I sure as shit don't.

Exactly...neither do I.

Tonight is one of them nights that I so badly wish we still had a Brandon Prust type guy in the lineup. He wasn't just a goon which is what some in here have hoped for. Prust was just skilled enough to give us some decent minutes on a 4th line but he was great for team moral cause he would stand up to anyone who f'd with any of our skilled players.

He would have no problem taking a run a "legal" run at a Backstrom or Carlson and than deal with the consequences. He likely would get his ass handed to him by Wilson if they fought but he'd do it and likely wouldn't embarrass himself.

But we don't have a Prust type...not even close. Heck even a Lemieux would have been nice to have for tonight. Going to be fascinating to see how this plays out tonight and it's definitely must see TV.

how does management not see this as an issue for so long. sandpaper players with skill. every team has a bunch, not even in the organization except for Cuylle with a legit NHL future.

It genuinely amazes me how soft the sport has become and more so the fans who think wilson basically committed attempted murder. I really think people here just started watching hockey.

the rangers look like whiney babies with this statement. The statement should have just been calling up the goon from the AHL. That is transaction wouldve been the statement

It amazes me that some fans have such issues with their masculinity that players putting players' lives in danger is what they get their kicks from.

Means putting their superstars them through the f***ing boards. Exactly what Sean Avery said in his brief interview that was posted a few pages back.

Unfortunately we don't have anyone in the line up who will or would.

If you're talking about legal clean checks, we should be doing that anyway.

so you never liked Graves or Messier because they were skilled guys that fought, Shanahan Avery Dubinsky Callahan also fought when they had too. i'd appreciate them fighting if it meant sticking up for their teammates and or to change the momentum of the game, not to fight the other team' goon... players that turn the other cheek get no respect. if Lafy or Kakko was on the ice and saw Mika get hit on a dirty play, you rather them skate to the bench and to rely on the refs instead of getting involved and being a good teammate

It was a different time, man. You're also talking about a top 10 player in the game. Not sure the comparison applies. Same goes for Avery, Dubinsky, and Callahan. Kakko and Laff are going to be too important to the team to have them messing around fighting. I think the Rangers can add a guy or two to take on those roles. We agree those players are needed I just don't need Kakko and Laff being those guys.

I think we're probably going to be disappointed. Nothing is going to happen. And it's going to drive me crazy all summer long.

Not calling up geersten in a completely irrelevant game is a joke. The franchise needs to go back a decade and see what made them great. some tough hombres on those teams let our guys play freely. We need a brandon prust on this team desperately. We had one but we traded him to LA for a bag of pucks

This keeps happening because people love this shit. This sport, more than any other, is full of fans who are just flat out bloodthirsty. Dangerous hits, fights, and bullshit is very popular in the core fanbase. There's a reason the new rights holder, ESPN, is laying right into this "well what Wilson did was wrong but..................GMs/players/fans would LOVE him on your team!"

You see it here in our fanbase. Any time we lose a game badly, people are flipping out about toughness. It won't change the result, but somehow they'll feel like less bad about losing to the Isles 5-0 if one of our guys goes and punches someone in the face.

The NHL doesn't do shit because they see this as one of the most marketable parts of the products.

Yes and then got beat down by a grown man 10 years older. I don’t want my skilled teenager answering for that s***. Balance out the lineup with some experienced nastiness.

you think he wanted a beatdown, but I bet his teammates appreciated that he stuck up for his team. little things brings the team closer together

I don't mind good players that have sandpaper like drafting a Schneider but I'm terrified they'll make some consequential moves based on one maniac in one game like they did with McIlrath.

I think some probably did know it was an issue but that did not make it their priority.

Someone has to protect Panarin. The league apparently won't.

He literally could still be in the hospital if his head hit the ice in a different manner. I wonder what the NHL would've done then? We are talking about a f***ing Hart Trophy candidate.

Also wonder what would have happened if the same thing happened to Crosby or McDavid.

The NHL will continue to downplay and dismiss this type of dirty behavior until its too late.

Good on the Rangers making that statement, but they should've included Bettman's name on it too. Ultimately he is responsible as well.
