And this is what all of you refuse to recognize.

This is now universally recognized as a terrible contract. There were rumors they were going to ask him to waive it after ONE YEAR! ONE YEAR!

We aren't stuck with this for seven years, but this is yet another Sather-like contract for a team's window that was closed. The fans can't accept that, and the GM can't either. Its obvious how this'll end.

You are seriously scarred man. Shattenkirk is better than Yandle. He is younger then Yandle. And he came in at a significantly lesser term and $ than Yandle.

This is an all around insane signing. He is arguably the best PP QB in the world not named Karlsson.

He probably left just south of 30 million on the table to come here. Any GM in the league would have signed him to this deal.

Doesn't mean you venture into a terrible market for a very overrated player.

We got lucky that he wanted to take a discount. I'm sure he bailed Gorton out. Gorton has shown he's incompetent, probably would've offered Shattekirk another year or two if Shattenkirk didn't budge first.

Sure man. But don't put words and people's mouths then chastise them for having an opinion that you claim they have

This is worth every penny from a hockey standpoint. The meltdown by the tank brigade is a bonus.

WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH THIS CUSTOM "CAPSPACE" JERSEY??

SPECTACULAR contract.. Didmt even want shatty all that much...by at this deal.. Youd be a moron not to sign it if you're the rangers.

Good luck with him. He seems like a great guy, it's a shame he didn't fit with us. I'm not too angry at him for his playoff performance, he barely had any time to adapt to his new teammate. He scored a clutch OT goal against the Pens, that's what I'll remember him for.

I would.

Marc Staal is still a massive minus if he takes a regular shift, even on a 3rd pair.

Normally I agree with you, but Staal has to worry about Bear Gloves and Holden taking his spot. DeAngelo should have 3RD. Most argued that Staal could be serviceable with the right partner, now he could potentially play with a mobile excellent skating offensive defenseman, so i will give him this year to prove himself.

Shattenkirk is unequivocally, at the very least, our 2nd best defenseman.

That top 4 is amongst the best in the league now.

Where else would a Westchester kid be spending his Fourth of July weekend

Theyre excellent. Much more than alright. This guy is stepping in here and is our 2nd or 3rd best defensive dman.

Well yeah but I don't want to incite backlash from the he's bad guys

Plus we need guys who can do well moving the puck and shooting anyway so whatever.

Yandle was an okay defender. I had no problem with Yandle other than there just wasn't a long term fit with the Rangers. If we didn't have Staal, we should've re-signed him, but Sather signed Staal to a Sather-like contract.

Shattenkirk, no. He's a bad defender, his last two teams have used him as such.

What are you talking about?

And boy, aren't we all glad they didn't trade assets for him at the deadline

In any event,

McD - Shatty
Skjei - Smith

is objectively an enormous improvement from last year's

McD - Girardi
Staal - Klein

Right, but that wasn't our defense at the end of last year.

All I'm saying is that fans are irrational. They contort thinking whatever way they want to think their team can still win.

I just don't have a good feeling about this upcoming season, and signing two middle pair defensemen doesn't change my thinking on that. I don't think the changes we made make us any better as an overall team. It only confirms what I thought about this GM that he is every bit as irrational as his former boss. He traded Stepan and bought out Girardi because of the contracts, but then goes out and gives two long-term contracts like Sather would've.

Most argued that Staal could be serviceable with the right partner, now he could potentially play with a mobile excellent skating offensive defenseman, so i will give him this year to prove himself.

lol no he doesnt. He'll still get top 4 minutes with AV coaching this team.

That was St Louis and Washington's conclusion.

And you know better?

What an answer.

St. Louis traded him for assets and futures. With him taking a discount to play here and turning down potential trades with deals in place, it's the option St. Louis had to take or lose him for nothing.

Washington hasn't gotten out of the 2nd round and gave oshie an 8 year deal. They're also in boarderline cap hell and couldn't resign him. I also think they traded for him to keep him away from us and Pittsburgh during he playoffs.

All I asked you to do is explain why you think he's bad defensively and a PP specialist. Which you still haven't answered.
