I would.
Marc Staal is still a massive minus if he takes a regular shift, even on a 3rd pair.

Okay cool, so thats your opinion on the Staal contract and the previous Girardi contract? Since teams were willing to pay it, its an okay contract?
Yandle got 7 years, same player
He's awful defensively. Please, save me the charts. This guy can not defend.

And this is what all of you refuse to recognize.
This is now universally recognized as a terrible contract. There were rumors they were going to ask him to waive it after ONE YEAR! ONE YEAR!
We aren't stuck with this for seven years, but this is yet another Sather-like contract for a team's window that was closed. The fans can't accept that, and the GM can't either. Its obvious how this'll end.

Preparing all the charts.Does Machinehead have some business he's finishing up before he comes here to celebrate? NTTAWWT.
That's a straw man if I've ever seen one
Since you don't like the charts. Explain to us how you came to the conclusion he's terrible defensively and just a PP specialist.
He's not "awful" defensively. I just disagree.
In any event,
McD - Shatty
Skjei - Smith
is objectively an enormous improvement from last year's
McD - Girardi
Staal - Klein
That was St Louis and Washington's conclusion.
And you know better?

So Stepan for Shattenkirk, Deangelo, and the 7th overall pick. Can't complain at all
IMO he's better than Yandle defensively. He's not great--not awful--he's okay. Not the first guy you throw out when you're killing a penalty.
OTOH he has a better shot than Yandle's--is better overall player than Yandle--is a two year younger player than Yandle and he's got a 4 year deal instead of a 7. Those are all positives IMO.
