Stunned by that deal. That we only had to give four years at that AAV. Wow.

I didn't want him because of term, but even I have to love this.

According to Brooks, Shattenkirk came to the Rangers with that offer. Wow.

The fact is that the 28-year-old defenseman made the Rangers an offer they ultimately could not refuse, $26.6 million over four years for a $6.65 million cap hit per. Yes, in a complete reversal of the norm, the proposal was made to the organization by the free agent even as other offers rolled into him for far more money on longer-term deals.

Big if true.

We didn't get pretty far last year or the year before.

What don't fans realize? This team is declining, they are going in the wrong direction, and many of you want more big contracts.

The team is not declining. This offseason is a huge step in the right direction. Losing Stepan hurts, but thats completely overshadowed by replacing Girardi with Shattenkirk. The step up DEFENSIVELY from Girardi to Shattenkirk cannot be overstated.

"Misused"

Yeah I don't think pairing him with Brooks Orpik is really using him correctly. I never really understood that move (trading for Shattenkirk) from Washington's POV to begin with, but he should have seen minutes with someone who wasn't completely useless.

Awesome response though. Should expect no less from someone who spent a good chunk of last season trying to convince everyone that Ryan Graves was better than Brady Skjei.

This team is already a lot better than last year. Center is obviously worse but the wings are the same and the difference in the defense is just ridiculous. They've went from one of the worst defense groupings in the league to one of the best.

They were 2 games from the ECF this year. What are you talking about? They got younger and better this off-season.

You are in an alternate universe in your long term and short term thinking about this team....

Wait until this board turns on Shattenkirk. It's only a matter of time. What happens now? The Rangers weren't planning on spending nearly $7M on one player. Brooks wrote McDonagh will cost the Rangers $7.5M long term. Buyout Staal? The Rangers have the 2nd buyout window with Zibanejad/Fast filing for salary arbitration. Another buyout on the books?

A top 4 of McD-Smith-Skjei-Shatt is insane. That's a top 5 group.

What's this like? I don't know.

Address the argument, not the person. I have better things to do July 4th Weekend than wear down my fingers hitting the delete button

Didn't say that.

My preferred route is shedding big contracts, not adding more.

This team is mediocre, heading for the same type of season as last season, but some of these East teams look improved, so we might not even make the playoffs.

Our window is done. Fans can't accept it, GM can't either.

Lets see all the contorting at the end of next season.

You say people can't accept it as if it's a fact.

It's not. Literally not at all.

This lineup right now is already better than last year by quite a bit.

Would you rather us pull a Buffalo and suck horribly while hanging our hats on the all the potential we're wasting?

And this is what all of you refuse to recognize.

This is now universally recognized as a terrible contract. There were rumors they were going to ask him to waive it after ONE YEAR! ONE YEAR!

We aren't stuck with this for seven years, but this is yet another Sather-like contract for a team's window that was closed. The fans can't accept that, and the GM can't either. Its obvious how this'll end.

Totally off base. This is NOTHING like a Sather contract. This is under market value and under market term for a top offensive defenseman in the league. I'd challenge you to name one "big" contract where Sather got a discount. Gorton did a great job here.

I was very much against signing Shatt... but that deal is amazing..its impossible to dislike it.

He must have taken the mother of all hometown discounts.

Lots of the board doesn't like him already, so there!

This "window" people arbitrarily create is literally all about Lundqvist.

It legitimately was. This is not the 2012 roster anymore though. This is a defense core that is among the best in the league and a great group of forwards. The team as a whole is trending in the right direction. Hopefully we can win one for Hank, but if not Shesty looks to be capable as well. Cant say **** it and trade everyone because Hank is a year older.

only way to make this better is get rid of AV.

Worried about our centers, but goddam this defense is looking good.

Are there any veteran forwards (ideally 3Cs/4Cs) on contracts that are Marc Staal bad? I remember seeing Kruger's name come up but he expires next year, it's not even close
