I respectfully disagree. You mentioned trolling. Do you think some people might equate Brooks to a troll in the press and on twitter? If Brooks can say nasty things to members of our team why should he be above having his own words shown?
Can't complain about this. Shattenkirk locked up at market rate for the remainder of his prime.
Defense facelift is complete. Now plug some holes up front and go play some hockey.
I can. Now I'm excited for the season to start, but it's only July 1st.Can't complain about this. Shattenkirk locked up at market rate for the remainder of his prime.

I personally didn't want Shatty unless it was at 5 years. To get 4 years at that price is a steal. While I agree that I love the Rangers top 4 on paper, but you have to remember that AV will have a different top 4. I would bet my house the starting 6 looks like this....
McD - Holden
Staal - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Smith
It's possible Shattenkirk will play 3rd pair like Yandle.
No I don't think people can equate Brooks to a troll, not even remotely. What are you referring to because I don't understand at all? Please explain?
I call out Brooks too, things I don't agree with. Of course. How do you equate me and other calling out Brooks at times and Brooks calling out players on the team -- right or wrong -- with the pure hatred he faces on Twitter and all over? Check any tweet he makes, it's followed by 20 pure attacks on him.
I don't like it at all, JMHO. I don't make any rules.
Where do things go now at center, "I would say that we have some ongoing things to try and help us at center, we know it's a need and a hole there we are trying to fix. We also have the luxury of JT Miller, who we feel is a natural center and at some point we are hoping he can make that move and that gives us a little flexibility. We are looking. We have had some discussions with teams and trade scenarios. Definitely aware of the situation and see how it moves going forward."
Is it a trade scenario or a free agent, "I don't know. Hard to say. We are looking at both scenarios, check out the market and see what players can help you and prices and all of that info. We have talked to several teams about centers and we will see where it takes us."
On getting Shattenkirk at a reasonable price, "I can only talk for us. Kevin is a player we have coveted for a while, offensive defenseman on the right side that can do so many things for you. PP, as everyone noted, is as advertised. I would say that the market is what it is. We try to stay away from those 5-6-7-8 year deals right now and figure out where the cap is going as we move forward. We felt it was an opportunity to get a really good player for a term that we could live with and felt was fair for him and fair for us. As far as other players and talking around the league and seeing what was available, I felt that was the case, it didn't seem like the 5-6-7 year deals were out there for many teams. It's interesting change in the market."
Where does Shattenkirk fit in, "At some point I will leave it up to AV but it's clear we feel he is a top-four defenseman and we feel we have good left defense and any one of them can have success, in particular Ryan McDonagh and Brady Skjei have done really well on the left side, strong skating. Whatever way we go, we think it's going to work out well for him but we are bringing him here to play him a lot."
On the four-year term for Shattenkirk, "I think you gotta give credit to Kevin, he wanted to come here. I think that term deal was out there for him somewhere else. Here is a player that really wants to be here, left money on the table and that sent a pretty strong message to us. These 7 year deals are generally there, he might have got one but thankfully for us we got a player who wants to play for the Rangers, is from here, is an excellent player and four years worked out for both of us."
It's pretty amazing. Look at Head Clown Jumbo Joe and Mrs Marleau. They have made all the money they need for many lives, and have an unique opportunity to go somewhere and win something for the first time. What is priority number one for them? To ensure that they are paid for 3 years even if they fail completely after one. If they performed for the first year, they'd would of course be resigned. Not very appealing.
Shatty really wanted to come here.

One annoying poster will find a way![]()
I know they will. Sad!
Once again with all due respect, if not a troll what would you call a writer who calls Redden "Golden Gloves Redden" in a sarcastic manner after he came to the aid of a teammate or who called Kevin Lowe a coward in his columns?
It is rare for somebody to get hate for absolutely no reason at all. Is it possible that the person in question has played a role in it over the years?
It's a fair point and of course Brooks makes himself a bigger target than someone who just sucks up to everyone all the time.
But you still gotta take it for what it is. Brooks is an old dude who of course knows a ton but at the same time don't know much about modern hockey, X and Os and so forth. He will write good things and he will write things that is clueless. Are you or anyone surprised by that?? Many think AV is braindead, Yzerman must be worse signing Girardi, and so forth. But this almost 70 year old writer is supposed to get it right by everyone's standards?
It's getting bad for Brooks, doubt anyone in hockey is attacked more. Braindead IMO.
There were a lot of talk about Redden, I am sure you heard it, maybe Brooks had a good reason to call him out? Brooks was completely on Jagr from day 1? Anyone remember his attack on JJ when JJ said that he played harder during the POs than the regular season? I thought that was waaay of base. If everyone played the same during the reg season as the POs the pace would be the same in all games, it's like night and day. But Brooks was wrong, big deal. Brooks wanted bigger tougher players last season, claimed for Staal, Ladd and co all year. Size sucked and speed killed, he was wrong. Brooks wanted all the euros gone after the first year after the lockout, Gomez and Drury were his dream. Worthless moves. He was wrong. So what? Even I am wrong sometimes.![]()
Best part of this deal is that it's a big blow to the "blow it up" crew.
We're not gonna suck. Deal with it.
Good point. Shattenkirk is the exact opposite of those two, this off-season. Different priorities
