Wait, what??? Your number 1 McD and number 2 KS are both 28, number 3 Smith and numer 4 Skjei are 28 and 23 respectively and number 5 DeAngleo is 21. If Bereglazov can beat out Staal, he's number 6 at 23 years old. The top 4 are all also PO vets.

I know that's not as exciting as a lottery team throwing out some 19 year old straight from juniors but it's all we got and I ****ing love it. Youngest 21, oldest 28 with lots of mobility and experience - oh hell yeah.

The rangers have 3 players over 30. The complaints about getting younger are bs.

If those complaints relate to the prospect pool...well, that just got restocked.

If I hear one more person say we need to get younger I will snap. We ARE younger. We don't have any ELITE young players, but we ARE younger. Stop with the age nonsense.

LOL you know who is not young? The Penguins. The team that keeps winning the cup!

The Rangers spent $11M per for two 28 year old D in Shattenkirk and Smith. 4 year terms. Smith got a limited NTC. The structure and exact language of the NTC has not been reported yet. They could drop Smith to the 3rd pair if DeAngelo can show he can play. Trade Smith at some point in the contract which is probably front-loaded with a signing bonus paid today. I am sure Smith got a nice big check today.

More moves need to be made to relieve the logjam on D, create cap space and add younger assets,

I wasn't thrilled until I saw the contact, I can live with it. Does this mean we are getting rid of Staal? If it does I'll be even happier.

Need to solve the staal problem. That's the only move necessary at this point.

That's why youth for youth sake is so overrated. If they are young AND highly skilled ... great, gives you flexibility and a longer window. But to win you have to be ELITE, especially up the middle.

Without Crosby and Malkin ... the Pens are NOTHING. We don't have that game breaking forward. I think if we make a move for one, with the D currently constructed (without gutting too much) We could challenge them. Eventually those guys have to decline right?

Nice to see the sincerity in Shattenkirks interview with hockey central today after the announcement of his signing. The guy left probably 12-18 million on the table.
Says multiple times this was his dream playing for the team he loves.

The bottom line is good young or good old beats average young or average old. Young is fun but I'm not obsessed with age just get me good players.
