Interesting thing how Gorton made a point to say "we see him as a top 4 guy and that he'll get a lot of icetime"

I'm not really an AV bashing guy but I wonder if that's a bit of a shot across the bow in terms of "he's doing to play a lot of minutes here and not be second fiddle to Marc Staal"

This is exactly what I thought when I read the quote. He's warning AV to not treat Shatty like he treated Yandle.

As for Hayes and Miller as the 2C and 3C, the roster on opening night is never the same as the one after the trade deadline. I could see Grots being patient, allowing things to develop around the league and wait to see what opportunities there are. Grots has shown more than his share of patience.

One thing worth mentioning is now with Shattenkirk on board, DeAngelo no longer seems a 100% lock to be in the opening day lineup. Where he would have been an absolute necessity, there now is room for competition with a RH PP defenseman already in the lineup.

And if we do have DeAngelo, meaning two sets of dmen for the powerplay, what do the units look like?

Any chance Rangers still get a center? If they could get a Stepan replacement then the window would be open again for at least a few more years. Hayes or Miller at 2C will give me nightmares.

Conference call

Where do things go now at center, "I would say that we have some ongoing things to try and help us at center, we know it's a need and a hole there we are trying to fix. We also have the luxury of JT Miller, who we feel is a natural center and at some point we are hoping he can make that move and that gives us a little flexibility. We are looking. We have had some discussions with teams and trade scenarios. Definitely aware of the situation and see how it moves going forward."

Is it a trade scenario or a free agent, "I don't know. Hard to say. We are looking at both scenarios, check out the market and see what players can help you and prices and all of that info. We have talked to several teams about centers and we will see where it takes us."

Clearly the team is working to improve the depth at C. It might not happen by opening night, but I'd be surprised if they didn't obtain another center by the trade deadline.

I am Grot.

I still think they see DeAngelo as a big piece going forward, they'll want to develop him. I think he gets 2nd PP minutes. they could also get crazy and run DeAngelo and Shattenkirk on the point but two righty's might be confusing

PB wanted us to strip the team down to nothing cause he thinks they aren't good enough. He's salty that they are reloading and not tanking/rebuilding.

Don't have to tank to rebuild. 70% of our defense will be different next season plus we just added two first round picks.

An interesting signing - hopefully it will improve our blueline - happy about this deal.

Acquisition of Shattenkirk probably impacted amount of ice time ADA would get but not directly the roster spot. He still will be competing with Bereglazov, Pionk, Holden (if he's not traded) and 3RD is his to lose as of right now.

I'm not one to crap all over Brooks but it is kinda hilarious that he said "I can tell you that the reported deal is not accurate (4yrs/6.9m)" when in fact it was basically spot on.

It wasn't accurate because it was even cheaper! That's not what his tweet implied, he implied there was no parameters of a deal in place... clearly there was, so he was either lying or wrong.

yeah, but it's an empty claim which can always be proven right.

- Terms are different? Great, he's right
- Terms are the same? Yeah, but they were negotiating about the NTC/NMC
