McD/Shatty
Skjei/Smith
Staal or Holden/DeAngelo

Staal or Holden, Berez, Pionk, Graves.

shatty already said that he hopes to sign for 3 years after this contract is over lol. u can tell hes over the moon to be a ranger.

its so rare for a player to want to come here and play rather than retire.

he seems genuinely excited to play here

i cannot envision how anyone could have a problem with this player for that term and cap hit.

tonite, it feels really good to be a nyr fan

I am honestly curious how you feel about this. With this term, it is just such a good deal. 6.65m might be steep, it is the most we ever paid for a D-man, but for 4 years, there's no long-term implication

I honestly thought he was getting 7/49. Was hoping it wasn't going to be us.

6.65 may seem steep but we have cap room. The key was term and we nailed it.

Assuming Holden is traded (there is no way he isn't), my guess on the defense will be

McD-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Staal-Bereglazov/DeAngelo

Bereglazov and DeAngelo rotate every game

Anyone who thinks this is a bad deal is a ****ing imbecile.

No. Allow me to amend that statement. Anyone who thinks this is anything other than a great deal is a ****ing imbecile.

I am extremely happy with this. Definitely worth it at that term. ODC was very clear opposing this expected signing though. Not sure he minds with the 4y

I'm all for keeping Holden as he can play both sides and pinch in on any pairing in case of injuries.

If we unload holden somehow and get a decent center this would be a picture perfect FA day.

Are we allowed to have those?

No. We suck, we are an old team, have no talent, no prospects, no offense, our defense is in the gutter, Lundqvist is breaking down. We will be a lottery team for years.

Don't you read the main boards? haha

Marc Staal,

wanted no part of 22 at the expected 6/6 or 6/7 deal.

that would have been brutal. this deal is pretty perfect. only thing better would have been 4/6

i do like his statement though "4 yrs is fine with me. ill sign for 3 after that and thats 7 anyway"

love that

I would have been fine with 5 years at 6mil per. i didnt think there was any way on earth you get him for less than 5 years...id GLADLY pay him 650k more per year to get him for 4 years.

Guys..this is an absolute GRAND SLAM of a contract. He's a legit top 10 RHD in the NHL...and its really not even up for debate.

a top 10 RHD who you get for under 7 mil a year and for only 4 years...taking him right through his prime years before he starts to dip in his play? Literally best case scenario. absolute grand slam...this was a coup-de-tat by JG
