Why are they salty?

Because our advanced stats crew (which might be the largest on this forum) doesn't think Cam Fowler is Bobby Orr, so they literally follow us around making fun of everything the Rangers do.

Wait until this board turns on Shattenkirk. It's only a matter of time. What happens now? The Rangers weren't planning on spending nearly $7M on one player. Brooks wrote McDonagh will cost the Rangers $7.5M long term. Buyout Staal? The Rangers have the 2nd buyout window with Zibanejad/Fast filing for salary arbitration. Another buyout on the books?

Badass Shatter**** for the new avy. Replaces the long standing Callahan pic.

Shatty puts Callahan to shame. Dude tried to leach every freaking cent possible out of this organization.

I don't even care about those two 1sts, thank god we don't have Callahan on the cap at $6 mill for another 3 years. Imagine that.

1st for MSL leading us to SCF that year, and another 1st for not signing Callahan to that horrendous contract.

Win in my books.

The risk with Callahan was always going to be his body breaking down.

The way that deal has played out is not surprising. It was good for the first year, bad for the second year, and is only going to be more abysmal from here.

I remember when a lot of Rangers fans boycotted the team when he was traded.

We went on to make the finals and followed that up with an ECF the next season. Trading him was one of the best things to happen to this franchise.

The trade itself was borderline--St. Louis helped in the finals run but overall was not a great acquisition. However not signing Callahan was definitely a great decision.

Brooks also said we weren't in on Shattenkirk

Brooks also said Girardi was a top4 D

Brooks also said we were rebuilding two months before we went to the Stanley Cup Finals

McD had been pretty much carrying Girardi for years.

Even if Shattenkirk becomes more of a rover 1D I'm perfectly content with McD covering up for him.

That's not Shattenkirk's style of play.

He picks and chooses his spots wisely. His own-zone play leaves a little to be desired, but it's still not nearly as bad as everyone says.

Oh I'm absolutely not saying that it is. I'm just giving an extreme example that since McD has been covering up for Girardi all these years, if we took shatty to the extreme like some people make him out to be, McD would still be enough to cover him. Basically, their play styles mesh perfectly on paper.

Oh I know, I'm just saying you'll have nothing to worry about.

He's more of the guy that will sneak in for the backdoor play than lead the rush and get caught.

Give or take a few million if the contract was front-loaded, 4 years at 7 million is 28m. He got 26.5m with us.

Just because the total of the other contract was 49m, doesn't mean he gave up 23m because he will get to negotiate for another contract in 4 years. It's not as if he will retire at age 32 and miss out on 23 million.

Agree, he probably won't lose 23 mil. On the flip side, on a 7 yr front-loaded deal he isn't making 4 mil in yr 4, and might have seen more in years 1-3, as well. I do get your point, but with unknown variables like potential major injuries and declining play, it is not common to see an athlete leave so much money on the table to fulfill a dream and play on the team they love, especially modern day athletes. This signing is really refreshing in that respect.

What he did to be with the NY Rangers is very rare in pro sports. It is a business but this guy put some things above his bottom line today. I'm impressed by that for sure.

Same here. Even more so after watching his interview you'd mentioned.

I don't know if it has been mentioned but I think Shattenkirk will be more psyched and motivated than ever to come into camp in phenomenal shape and ready to show us he is reaching his peak as a pro. He is thrilled to playing with McD and I bet they hook up to skate together soon. We are getting a talented and skiled guy who can skate and QB the PP with grit on a great deal. He has to feel like his dream has come true. He is all in and will have to earn his next deal sooner than most thought. What is not to like here?
