NHL network projecting:

Mcdonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Staal-Holden

That third pairing...:shakehead If those are the horses AV is given, I wouldn't put it past him, but I don't think there's any way Bereglazov doesn't make the team out of the gate.

You do realize that Pitt had to go to OT of a 7th game to get past that "bad Ottawa team right?

You do realize we were one of the last 6-7 teams playing right? We did not suck. Sucking is being one of the worst teams in the lague not one of the last remaining 6-7 teams playing.

A rebuild doesn't mean you have to tank for draft picks. There are plenty of ways to rebuild a team. The weird thing is you are saying we threw on another big contract. What we basically did was trade Stepans contract for Shatty while also adding the #7OA in the process.

Yeah, and Pittsburgh has won two Cups in a row, and they got by Ottawa. I didn't say Ottawa is incapable of giving a contender a series, but if you can't beat Ottawa, its time.

This is all relative. There are not 16 contenders each season. Only a few. This team has been on the outside looking in of that group since we got to the ECF. We've won 7 games the last two playoffs.

The logical thinking is that Gorton axed Stepan and Girardi because he didn't like the contracts he negotiated or helped negotiate for them, now he adds two more big contracts that he negotiated.

That line was cancer last year. Let's hope it was from the two of them being paired together and it doesn't spread when they're separated.

I really wish the Rangers would have taken a flier on Pouliot. Would have made moving JT to C much easier.

Yea wouldve loved Benny back. 1 year 1 million worked last time around.

Maybe we sign Marleau, maybe Andersson pushes for a roster spot or maybe we just actually play Buchnevich in a top 6 role. Theres options.

Wow...McD-Shatt-Skjei (barring a sophomore slump from Skjei) is a nasty 1-3, and Smith can hold it down on the 2nd pair. with DeAngelo and the Russian kid Bereglazov as young wild cards.

Is this the first time in 5 years the Rangers are going into the season with defense as a strength?

How is going into the season with an average roster rebuilding?

Its not.

I didn't want to go into this season with this roster.

I wanted to shed some more contracts than we did, but we are going the opposite direction. We really didn't shed any contracts. We shed two, and added two, so thats not rebuilding.

Longer. That 2012 defense was peak Hank.

Vesey/Hayes/Nash played well together, and Zucc looked good with JTM. Maybe just find a wing for JTM and Zucc.

Rebuilding on the fly. Its what Gorts said we would do. Replace Stepan with Shattenkirk while adding two top prospects.

This is an excellent deal, he was just on NHL network and made an interesting comment. He had plenty of 7 year deals but if he plays well for four years that he WOULD resign with the rangers for 3 more if they wanted him back. THe team is better then last year there is no doubt about it.

Who would you have targeted next year? And for how much? Like, who did Gorton just sabatoge our chances of getting thanks to Smith and Shattenkirk. You seem to be arguing that these are bad signings because they don't put us over the hump. Okay. How did this bork them 12 months from now?

We've improved the defense now and for the future as well with the youth and depth.
Stepan was a sacrificial lamb for that.
I don't see how it would be possible to improve the defense especially in the near future without sacrificing a commodity like stepan.

If the Rangers continue to roll with four alternate captains, does Shattenkirk get an A? Stepan and Girardi departed. I imagine Zuccarello gets one.

If the guy is an elite offensive defenseman and can only play X minutes per game why would you waste some percentage of those minutes in PK time when you can give them to him at 5v5 and PP? The "he doesn't even PK" argument when it comes to any player is one of the worst out there.

This is especially true because we see the opposite with McD.

Now McD doesn't have to PP, he can 5v5 and PK

Shatty can 5v5 and PP (along w Deangelo)

McD should benefit from this.

Wish we could go

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Bereglazov DeAngelo

This is the dream. But Gorton needs to work his magic to get rid of Staal--if he can't be dealt at 50% retained then the second buyout period is approaching. Holden should be easy to flip for a 3rd.
