Unless AV shifts his entire philosophy about balanced defensive pairings, I wouldn't be surprised to see him start with McDonagh-Smith and Skjei-Shattenkirk

I could be wrong, but I'm just trying to think from what AV's done in the past. Think Edler-Ehrhoff kinda
 
Was pretty against brining in Shattenkirk.

But this is beyond a reasonable deal. No brainder. Good on KS, he really wants to be here.

On the other hand - wtf is the point/plan? You know AV is gonna play him with Staal. Trading Stepan means this team will be just as good as last year, at best. Mika/Hayes/?/? is not CLOSE. Mired in mediocrity again.

Yes, absolutely. I wanted to rebuild. Our window is closed, was probably closed before last season, as well.

If we can't beat the Ottawa Senators, thats surely a sign.

You do realize that Pitt had to go to OT of a 7th game to get past that "bad Ottawa team right?

We did not suck. Sucking is being one of the worst teams in the lague not one of the last remaining 6-7 teams playing.

A rebuild doesn't mean you have to tank for draft picks. There are plenty of ways to rebuild a team. The weird thing is you are saying we threw on another big contract. What we basically did was trade Stepans contract for Shatty while also adding the #7OA in the process.

Off-season isn't done yet. Gorton can A)Bring in a middle 6 C or B)Move Miller to C and bring in a middle 6 W

The cup champs barely beat the sens. I guess they shouldve traded Malkin right after losing game 1.

I don't think even AV is crazy enough to play Shattenkirk with Staal. I think.

Dump Staal and Holden wherever. Run Bereglazov with one of DeAngelo/Pionk/Graves as the third pair. Profit.

How is going into the season with an average roster rebuilding?

While i get the skepticism, no way AV does this. They're paying big money for him. He is a top pairing guy in his prime.

If AV does not have him on the top pairing, or does some stupid stuff with his deployment, Gorton will fire him, and Ruff will be head coach. I have no doubt Gorton will do the right thing

But AV gonna AV I guess
 
McDonagh-Shattenkirk is going to be a thing.

Unbelievable deal for Gorts to take Stepan's exact years left and cost per year (very close) and turn that into Shattenkirk.

That line was cancer last year. Let's hope it was from the two of them being paired together and it doesn't spread when they're separated.

I really wish the Rangers would have taken a flier on Pouliot. Would have made moving JT to C much easier.

After seeing the price we paid for Yandle and what this joke of a coach did with him, nothing will surprise me. Staal will probably average more minutes than Shattenkirk.
