He passed an unimaginable amount of money. His conviction is stronger than 99% percent (me for sure). Very impressive and respectable!

I will not care how top 4 combinations will workout as long as Staal is permanently off of it. McD-Skjei and Smith-Shattenkirk is perfectly fine with me.

Because I consume hockey. Don't try to paint this as an out there opinion, its very mainstream. Go to the St. Louis board and ask about his defending. The people who think he defends well are mainly those who look at his chart numbers, and decide thats enough proof he defends well.

Shattenkirk's reputation around the league is a PP specialist. Darren Dreger had a quote from a management type not too long ago that he was a bottom pairing PK specialist or something to that extent. I don't remember the exact quote. His coach's don't even put this guy on the PK. Doesn't mean all defensemen who PK are good, but if you are getting that much money and you aren't trusted by either of your past two teams to PK, what other conclusion should I draw other than he's not very good defensively?

The charts aren't lines on paper - they're graphical representations of what happens when he's on the ice. How can you take whether he PKs or not as proof that he's not good defensively when the actual results that occur with him on the ice clearly state that he's fine defensively?

Of course they were planning on it. It didn't come out of nowhere, it just wasn't a sure thing he would take less to come here. They didn't free up all that cap space to sit on their hands.

You and your boy were wrong. It didn't take 7.5 mill or 7 years.

You never let your agendas die. Zucc could pull you out of a burning building and you would still hate him.

Stop speaking facts. Only narratives and spin is allowed!

If the guy is an elite offensive defenseman and can only play X minutes per game why would you waste some percentage of those minutes in PK time when you can give them to him at 5v5 and PP? The "he doesn't even PK" argument when it comes to any player is one of the worst out there.

So coach opinions are good when they fit your agenda but are disregarded as rubbish when they don't? Please take your defeatist attitude somewhere else hahahahahahahahhahahaha

Why do you keep projecting things onto my opinion that I haven't said?

You forget in all of this that we lost our #1C for nearly nothing that will help us this season, and then of course we also have a declining goalie, might be a rapidly declining goalie. We let the better of the two goalies from last season go.

There are many teams in the East on the upswing, we are on the downswing. I'd be shocked if he did anything other than stay lateral with adding more big contracts. And thats at the very least. I think there's a good chance we will miss the playoffs.

Who's projecting? I asked a question if that was what you wanted, I never said it was your opinion.

Every offensive defenseman gets the exact same reputation unless they were originally a defensive guy who developed offense like Hedman.

Or they are the best in the world for like 4 consecutive years and ***** slap two teams better than they are in the playoffs with a broken foot

You can not say unequivocally that the rangers are better....they downgraded substantially on raanta and stepan....need another center.

You can unequivocally say that their defense is better. We definitely need a center now. We have some assets on D. Maybe make a try at Galchenyuk? I don't know. Management has to have something planned.

We do still need to add a great forward preferably a center. That is for sure but we are better today than we were yesterday (at least on paper).

Totally off base. This is NOTHING like a Sather contract. This is under market value and under market term for a top offensive defenseman in the league. I'd challenge you to name one "big" contract where Sather got a discount. Gorton did a great job here.

My definition of a Sather-contract is different from yours.

I was getting at the point that we signed yet another really big name on the market that the team shouldn't have signed, but this team is hungry for big names, so it can't help itself. We are always the team that signs the player with the "sweepstakes" tag. Why do we have to be that team? How many Stanley Cups has it resulted in this century?

And as has just been revealed, Gorton didn't negotiate down Shattenkirk's number, Shattenkirk essentially said he'll come here for a much discounted deal of what he could've got. You credit Gorton for that? No, I credit Shattenkirk for wanting to play for the Rangers. Thats great, and he's a fine player, but we are going in the wrong direction, and don't need to sign UFA's to four year contracts with where this team is at.

I point you to the Smith contract the other day as a clear overpayment for a UFA we didn't need.

Tread lightly with trying to get a "legit" top center. It will absolutely set this franchise back big time if it doesn't work out. Kiss Buch, Skjei and probably a first round pick goodbye.
Heck Colorado wanted Skjei for starters for tyson barrie lol.

I don't wanna rush the kid andersson but if he is ready for third line center duties maybe thats the best course of action.
And just hope Hayes is competent as second line center.

stepan was not getting us even a duchene. Maybe Stepan and Skjei or stepan and two top picks.
Im much happier with The two young centers we go plus keeping our most promising young player everyone wants

We could trade for Crosby tomorrow and some folks on here would complain nonstop.

This is worth every penny from a hockey standpoint. The meltdown by the tank brigade is a bonus.

WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH THIS CUSTOM "CAPSPACE" JERSEY??

But if do it right then we could get a crack at someone like Nail Yakupov every 5 years or so, surely that's worth 12 winning seasons in a row and ****loads of PO excitement. If we're really lucky we could hit the jackpot and get Pavel Brendl 2.0 Tank baby tank!

But back to reality for a second, I didn't want Shattenkirk initially but the the pure ****show on D during the Sens series changed my mind and that top 4 makes us so much more competitive immediately.

Nobody wants big contracts but people who want to win want good players. Sadly good players often have larger contracts to compensate for their above average talent. That is just reality. We could sign 23 scrubs for 1 mill each. What would that get us.....unless your goal is to lose (tank)

Not the time for that. Its one thing to point to the defense, its totally different if you consider the rest of the team. The goalie is rapidly declining, we lost the good goalie, we lost our 1C.

This is a better team? I don't think so. And we added more big contracts. If you are adding more big contracts and not improving for sure, you are doing things wrong.

PB who would you have targeted this offseason. And for how much?

I don't agree that they are for sure better..I think it's arguable...losing stepan raanta and lindberg up front while adding...as of now...just pavelec to replace them I'd a huge colossal step backwards
