The best kids often get bid up with bonuses, which can make their ELC's tough to fit under the cap. Sometimes the best kids get close to a 3 million cap hit playing in the NHL. So, sometimes if you have a solid set of prospects, it isn't worth it to bid up undreafted players.

But I do wish they scouted the NCAA more. I see Dallas, Toronto, Philadelphia everywhere. Either the NYR scouts come in disguise or they aren't here.
Meh, most of those are unlikely to be realized. On ELCs the type A bonuses, the attainable ones, cap out at $850,000 per year. The type B bonuses can be a lot higher, but those are mostly for players who are in the 10 in the league in some category. It's unlikely those would be realized for a College UFA on an ELC.

Agree, and this doesn't take into account Boyle, Moore, Carcilo, Stralman, Falk, Diaz, Pouliot and Richards potential termination.

dont forget Asham, Haley are also UFA as well..

Powe i think has 2 more years left on this contract. i bet they trade him for a pick at the draft. to a team that needs some vets like Panthers or Oilers.

I wonder if Jason Wilson would do the Rangers a solid and terminate his NHL contract a couple months early. He's not getting NHL pay anyways. Would help with future undrafted UFA negotiations if they can offer this season.

i doubt he will do that. i bet he wont resign and will end up retiring. he sucks

Powe is UFA at year's end.

Almost went with Joel Bouchard.

But I'm drawing a blank. Who are you referring to?

maybe he meant Todd Marchant pr Doug Weight. they wore 39 :yo:

Dougie Weight

Trev Van Riemsdyk would be cool, wonder if the Leafs might have the lead on that one cause of his bro.

Frankie Simonelli from Wisconsin is another RHD FA. He played briefly with Miller, Haggerty and Ryan Bourque on the USNDT few years back. Plus Mcdonagh must know him a bit. Not a big guy but Simonelli is versatile.

the kids shot is a laser... reminds me of Gaborik's shooting, but he knows how to position himself like Nash... Rocketing wrister too... Man, it's possible him and Duclair are home runs!

WOW

connects well on one timers (could be a big BIG asset on the PP this year (doubt it happens)

Strong accurate wrist shot.

heavy snap shot.

solid on the backhand as well.

Imagine having THAT one timer from the LW/half boards on the PP?

That would be dangerous.

put the kid on his off wing and instruct him to grip it and rip it every chance he gets.

do not put him at center. do not put him on RW keep him on his off wing and let him shoot the puck

Looks like he has a great shot, especially from the Stamkos zone on the PP.

However, it also seems like he's wide open on a lot of these. He won't get that type of space in the NHL.

Should be interesting to see if he can make the team at some point. Never hurts to try to get assets for nothing.

worst case, he's a solid add for the wolfpack, for nothing.

best case, he makes the team and bombs 15 goals a year on the 2nd PP unit :D

That's exactly right. A few people ***** and moan about how we sign UDFA's that end up being ECHL fodder, but there's so little downside to taking a gamble. When Connor Allen was signed, it was kind of a, "Uhh, okay, whatever" response from most people here. He's looking like a nice prospect for us. Even Troy Donnay, a signing that was panned by many including myself, has progressed nicely this year and may yet turn into an interesting player. If you have contract spots available, there's just no reason to not sign guys like this.

Agreed wholly. Especially when you don't have as many draft picks to work with.

Take a gamble for something that costs 0 assets outside $$ and a contract spot.

I still wish we gave a contract to Jack Connolly out of UMD. Hindsight is 20-20, though (on my end). Doesn't have great size, and is about a 0.5 ppg player in the SEL right now.

Always felt he could bring something to the table like Gerbe does, plus he had leadership qualities as the captain at school.

There are always little gems in the college game that can be found.

Also thought/hoped we'd take a flyer on Scooter Vaughan. He took the tournament by storm as a teammate of Hagelin's in 10/11. Think he's on the Sound Tigers now.

A contract is not just paper, there's people, man hours involved that believe it or not add up to something tangible and squandered if nothings gained.

That said, yeah, we have no choice but to sign FA's and this was one of the names I would have targeted.
