all i am reading is good things about this guy. I like it...

As I said in the Richards thread, one of Hagelin or Pouliot is going bye-bye next year, and once that happens, I can assume that Zucc can slide to the other wing, and if this guy is as strong as we are expecting, can be dropped into the RW opening.

I am still all for replacing/trading Nash for a future Grade A prospect and a ready-to-play NHL Roster player. Unfortunately we're going to have to retain salary to do so, as I don't think anyone is going to want a $7.8M paperweight.

We are not trading Rick Nash after dealing high picks for MSL. Get real.

Curious to see the terms, hope it's a 3yr ELC.

Just doing some light reading on him, but seems like his S% was extremely high this year (think it was like 22%+), which accounts for his drastic increase in goals this season, but by all accounts he's steadily improved.

Who knows what'll happen, but he was one of the better UDFAs available, so nice roll of the dice.
By bringing him in now, means that he already burn his first ELC year this 13/14 year.

Awesome news on this one. Interesting that they grabbed another RWer with the addition of St Louis, Nash here and MZA, Fast and Kristo already in the organization.

This is what they will need to do more of.

Kantor, Donnay, Nicholls, Allen and Hughes last year. Haggerty is a good start for this year. Free talent.

Agreed. Can you imagine where this team would be without Girardi & Zuccarello right now? Yikes. Even if only 1 out of every 10 of these pan out in any sort of fashion, free talent gives us the depth we need to remain competitive despite high/no 1st round picks and few picks overall.

Talbot. Stralman.

To a lesser extent, Allen and Hrivik.

yeah when you're running a NY team that needs to remain competitive, it's tough to go the Hawks route and tank for high draft picks... Free Agent pickups out of the NCAA/International leagues is the best place to find that talent, especially when you don't need to give up any assets to get it!

Wow, was concerned about having only 1 RH forward in the lineup before Dorsett got in last night. I thought they wouldnt have a way to address that until after the season. Who knows, this could help fill the void if someone goes down, or if they feel he can step in. Shakes the room up having a youngster there as well. Motivation factor. I like it.

Fast is a righty. I would find it VERY odd if Haggerty, with no pro experience, got into a game over Jesper, who has already played (and done a representative job) playing in the NHL and since then has had 27 points in 36 games in the AHL.

I know nothing about the kid, but am loving what all you guys are posting. Now go get Carey and a couple of the dmen.

Given the lack of 1st round picks and number of UFAs on the squad (and New York City), you have GOT to the Rangers are an attractive destination for undrafted FAs, no?

I honestly think it's all about money and an opportunity so I think you have half of it. If Allen makes it as a consistent NHLer that will help.

I know lots of people like NCAA free agents but I am a bit more intrigued by the players passed up in their first draft year ala Donnay or Tolchinsky just for the simple fact that a lot of underdeveloped players aren't drafted in their first go around.

I'm not at all against signing both though :naughty:

This is what allows for the trading of draft picks. Don't know much about him at all since I don't watch the ECAC. Quality of play in that league never caught my attention much.

The team needs RH shooting forwards, so this is a good signing just based on criteria.

It's a shame that Miller will have to spend time in the minors over guys that aren't playing up on the big league roster (Falk, Diaz, Dorsett and now this guy), but there is that 4 call up rule to keep in mind, so Miller can come back up to the big leagues. Same with Fast.

Always good to add to the cupboard. What I love about UDFA's are that they are usually much further along in terms of giving NHL minutes than a 18 year old.

There's also Krushelynski in Denver that might be a good pick up this off season... his dad played on those 80s Oilers' teams, and he played with John Moore in the USHL. Plus skater, versatile depth player in the mold of a John Mitchell that stood out during the Ranger's last rookie camp.

That would be true under normal circumstances, but since he cannot play in the AHL, and Fast can, they might just play him if someone got hurt, or they wanted to get a look in the last set of regular season games.

If anyone cares, RPI home hockey games have been archived by RPI-TV, the student TV club. IMHO, they do a great job with the filming. If you don't want to watch entire games, boxscores can be found here to see where to go. "Playlist" in the upper left of a video lets you go to a specific period of a game.

I don't know if it's because Donnay is a man-child among boys in the OHL, or if it's because he plays for a powerhouse Erie team, but he's looked good in a few games that I saw. Definitely looks like he could go on a muscle building program, and hopefully isn't one of those kids that can't put on muscle mass, but for a guy that 6'8" he skates well enough to cover a lot of ice.

Not Tyler Myers good, but better than Boyle.

Perfect example of an under developed player. Not all of them will work out, but I agree, he covers a lot of ice for sure.

sorry if this was already covered and i missed it...does anyone know/remember why he wasn't drafted?

There are some CHL guys--Zach Bell a right shooting d-man playing for London-OHL is a ****ing beast. Has talent and a mean streak and is 6-2 and about 235 lbs. Mike Aviani playing for Spokane of the WHL--a Brad Marchand type center. Talented and chippy as hell. LW Ryan Van Stralen plays for Ottawa of the OHL--big and a good scoring touch. Randy Gazzola a 6-2 225 lb or so right defenseman for Val d'Or of the Q--over a point a game player.
