Even if he never gets into a game, it will be a valuable learning experience to spend the next months practicing with the team, getting to know NY, etc.

Better than just going home after school season ends and playing open hockey with benders till september

Also one hell of a paycheck for attending a few practices and watching games from the pressbox.

 who needs draft picks when you can successfully sign kids out of college just in time for playoffs

Allen is a better prospect than most drafted late in the first round. That, however, is an exception. For every Allen, you get a ton of guys like Nicholls and Grant.

not sure the first clip is the right Ryan Haggerty.

The kid that signed today just turned 21 years old a week ago.

that clip is from 2007? That would make him 13 in February 2007

Unless the date at the top of the clip is mm/yy/dd not mm/dd/yy

Either way I'm happy.

I work with his aunt and she was crying as i showed her this thread.

Hope he works out.

Wow, holy ****, that made me feel old..

Nicholls got off to a real slow start in the ECHL but his numbers have been picking up. He's over 30 points now.

Any case there's been quite a bit of buzz around Haggerty for a while. And guys like Allen, Talbot, Girardi and even guys like Jed Ortmeyer make it worthwhile to keep on signing free agents who you think have a shot. It doesn't always work out--sometimes it's a complete waste like with Grant, Jean, Missiaen--that's the ass end of the equation.

Little over a month ago I had posted about signing one of Carey, Ryan Walters, Ryan Haggerty, Mark Zengerle or Brock Higgs.

Haggerty is the closest to a Pro Center in that group, the rest are Wingers, IMO. Carey and Zengerle are dangerous players, would've liked to have been in on them too.

James Van Riemsdyk grew up a Rangers fan--makes me wonder anyway whether his brother Trevor might want to sign with us. Rangers IMO are going to have a number of openings going into next season at both the NHL and AHL levels--if they can grab TVR plus one off your list that would be really really good for us.

Gonna have to go this route the next few years, gotta hope one or two hit the mark.

You don't see Zengerle as a center?

Does Haggerty actually play C? I thought he was a winger already.

This kid gas to be on the nhl roster since he can't go to ahl? Errrrr no one can be sent down as it's all 1 way deals

Come on Vitto. You've been around long enough to know how 1 way deals work. Has nothing to do with being able to be sent down or not. In the new CBA, it just means that only the minimum NHL salary + 375K comes off the cap. This year that's 925k.

Falk (cap hit 975k), if he were sent down, would still cost 50k against the cap. But as others have said, there is no roster limit after the trade deadline, and we have plenty of cap space, so no one needs to be sent down. We are at 50 contracts, but that only impacts our ability to sign another FA for this year. We can still sign FAs and have the contract start next season.

I agree. 3-4-5 college and/or CHL free agents each year for the next couple years anyway. Just looking at the RFA's and UFA's probably not returning to our Hartford AHL team next year---Powe, Asham, Bickel, Johnson, Haley, Syvret, LeNeveu, Jean, Missiaen, Stajcer, Wilson, Beach. That's 12 guys and probably St. Croix replaces one of them and maybe Nicholls and Noreau. Likely none of our drafts graduating from the CHL or College to the pros. There is also RFA Ryan Bourque who I would re-sign. Haggerty now becomes another guy but we will have holes to fill. So get to work Slats.

Good point ! I know the whole family are Rangers fans. Don't know if TVR would sign a contract that would slide for next season just to play for the Rangers or if some other team offers him a better contract similar to Ryan Haggerty's.
The Rangers need RHD and he is a good prospect.

I think it is this guy http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=50644 since there was an Adam Meyer in the same league in 2007.

Wow, was concerned about having only 1 RH forward in the lineup before Dorsett got in last night. I thought they wouldnt have a way to address that until after the season. Who knows, this could help fill the void if someone goes down, or if they feel he can step in. Shakes the room up having a youngster there as well. Motivation factor. I like it.
