Will we burn a year of his ELC since he'll be on the team? Or does the 10 game rule still apply...

can confirm. If we make the playoffs he will not be able to play since he was signed after the deadline afaik. Can any one confirm?

Yeah, starting the contract this year instead of next is likely one of the reasons he signed with the Rangers. That's what I thought.
So, we burn a year of his ELC regardless, he can't go to the AHL, and he can't play in the playoffs?
Guess it's better that we have him than someone else though![]()
That's a very good signing. He's definitely in the top 10 college free agents this year.
Others worth looking at--Greg Carey-St. Lawerence U. Ryan Walters-Nebraska-Omaha Antti Oksanen-Boston U. defenseman, Trevor Van Riemsdyk-New Hamphire U. defenseman. Mark Zengerle-Wisconsin U. Shane Takar-Notre Dame U defenseman CJ Motte-Ferris St. U-goalie Ralfs Freibergs-Bowling Green St U. defenseman (played for Latvia in the Olympics).
interesting move here. ive seen some of this kid. saw rpi play cornell and clarkson and he played well both times.
i just spoke to my buddy at oswego state who knows this kid and his comments were this.
goal scorer. bull dog. great hands strong shot. built solid and skates really well. hes developed a knack for scoring big goals and does good work down low.
played with miller on the u18 team and another product of the usndp. seems to me that slats and co are really comfortable taking kids out of the usndp. if i was gonna venture a guess thats where our next high draft pick will come from.
hard to argue with this kind of fa signing. low risk here and goal scorers can always find work.

yaThanks for your insight on this signing.
since he can not play in the playoffs or be sent to the AHL, is it possible it was now or never for the Rangers? Maybe others also was in the hunt for his signature now?
From his twitter feed, he has been a Rangers fan for years, which is a good thing![]()
Assistant GM Jeff Gorton told the Daily News on a phone call late Wednesday afternoon that Haggerty had several suitors but wanted to jump straight to the big time. The Rangers are not guaranteeing he'll play soon, but they were one of the teams willing to put him in the NHL immediately. It probably didn't hurt that the Stamford, Conn., product grew up a Rangers fan, either.
"He's one of the top guys in college, he's a free agent we had at the top of our list, and this is something we felt we had to do in order to get him," Gorton said of sending the 6-foot, 200-pound goal scorer directly to Broadway. "Sometimes that involves burning a year of contract, (which Haggerty will do), but we felt we had to do that to get the player."

Starting March 1 a team can sign a player to a contract starting either the current year or the next one.wouldn't that have applied for any team he signed with?
Speaking with his aunt at work, about two weeks ago, she indicated that the Hawks were interested.
I think that being from Stamford, CT and eventually playing for Hartford (close to home) and being a Rangers fan may have had an impact as well.

Awesome news on this one. Interesting that they grabbed another RWer with the addition of St Louis, Nash here and MZA, Fast and Kristo already in the organization.
This is what they will need to do more of.
Kantor, Donnay, Nicholls, Allen and Hughes last year. Haggerty is a good start for this year. Free talent.
