A contract is not just paper, there's people, man hours involved that believe it or not add up to something tangible and squandered if nothings gained.

That said, yeah, we have no choice but to sign FA's and this was one of the names I would have targeted.

Yes, this is true in general. I'm speaking as a fan of the Rangers, though. We have the resources--both financial and people--that these moves should be worthwhile endeavors, even if the majority fail. I don't know what we spend on amateur scouting and player development, but I'm sure it's a very large amount.

from the past Sean Avery was not drafted..back in the day Ed Belfour never drafted... Dino Ciccarelli also never drafted. Fedotenko was also never drafted. Curtis Joseph never drafted, Andy McDonald, John Madden

here are some undrafted past and present NHL players.

Alex Burrows was never drafted.. Dan Boyle never drafted. Josh Georges never drafted.. a lot of good talent in the NHL that was never drafted. Jonas Hillier, Jeff Halpern, Pascal Dupuis, Dustin Penner, St.Louis

That's certainly somewhat true.

But how many man hours are "wasted" on players the team evaluates that they don't sign or draft? How many guys get heavily scouted and end up being drafted by a different team or signing elsewhere? How many a year? Dozens?

The man hours often get used regardless of the contract.

That's all part of the game. Same as the draft, you may not always get the guy you want, but when its time to take somebody you better have others next in line, especially when you have an advantage in man and money over most teams in the league.

I'm very sad to say I will not be returning to RPI Hockey next year but will be pursuing my dream of playing in the NHL with the @NYRangers

He's got the gracious hockey player speak down.

This is what I always dreamed of as a kid:

Good luck to you, guy.

Yep, good luck to him.

Also, yay! Shiny new toys. We love that around here. Hope he impresses enough to get a game or two, but likely that'd only be because of injury.

Not the right time to be trying people out when we're down to the wire on a playoff spot.

No doubt.

All I meant was that the man hours are usually invested regardless of signing/drafting a player. So its hard to quantify what is lost when a player does not pan out.

When it comes to a player like Haggerty, its really just about contract management.

im excited for this kid. hes got good tools.

low risk play here. he comes from the usndp so its not like the kid doesnt have solid credentials.

rpi isnt a school that puts out tons of players.

a few i know

matt murley- ex syracuse stars kid :handclap:
daren puppa
adam oates
joe juneau

I didn't know a lot about this kid, so I went to check out some of his games. What I like about him is it seems he likes to get shots off quickly. If he can do that instead of the endless passing that ultimatly ends up outside the zone which we're seeing a times, he should help us out. I highly doubt we'll see him this year though.

D'Amigo went there as well. He's considered a good player.

No one's mentioned Martin St. Louis--an undrafted player out of Vermont U.

There are some very good undrafted players around the league.

Among the best from the Colleges: Curtis Glencross, Dan Boyle, Torey Krug, Dekeyser, Andy Greene, St. Louis, Chris Kunitz, Teddy Purcell, Tyler Bozak.

Among OHL undrafted players-Dan Girardi, Mark Giordano, Andrew Desjardins, David Clarkson, Joel Ward.

WHL undrafted players include-Brendon Dillon, Cody McLeod, Josh Gorges, Tyler Johnson, David Schlemko and of course Colton Orr.

QMJHL undrafted players include-Antoine Roussel, Zybnek Michalek, Pascal Dupuis, David Desharnais, Alexandre Burrows and Francis Bouillon.

And European undrafted players include numerous goaltenders--Antti Niemi, Jonas Hiller, Sergei Bobrovsky, Niklas Backstrom, Antti Raanta, Viktor Fasth, Jonas Gustavsson, Eddie Lack + Mats Zuccarello, Damian Brunner and Ville Leino.

any idea where these UFA would be ranked if they were drafted?

Girardi im guessing 1st or 2ed round pick

Zuccarello 2-4th round

Cam Talbot 3-5th round

what is your take on this??

Good luck to you, guy.

As a kid, you dreamed of Ryan Haggerty signing a contract with the Rangers?

Weird.
