Assuming our D will be:

McD - G
Staal - Boyle
Moore - Klein
Kostka (650k)

The forward group is going to be a mess with no cap space.

Kreider (2.5) - Step (3.1) - Nash (7.8)
Hags (2.25) - Miller (900k) - MSL (5.6)
Haggerty (925l) - Brass (4.5) - Zuccs (4)
Carter (950k) - Lindberg (675k) - Kantor (600k)
Carcillo (925k)

Has to be something like that, otherwise we have no cap space for during the year.

I hear your point, but you have the lines all wrong:

Kreider Stepan St. Louis
Nash Brassard Zuccarello or Zuccarello Brassard Nash

That's the top 6 as of now.

Not Hagelin, not Miller.

I like the cap number, better than 5 million but it still seems like an old Ranger move

The old "Ranger moves" were made without a care in the world about need or fit. This move fills a need and the player fits. In what way is this an "old Ranger" move?

I remember when Richards left money on the table to sign with the Rangers too. He fits on paper but he looked gassed at the end of the year. This one can go either way, but I doubt he's getting 2nd pairing minutes at the end of the season.

not an ideal contract...esp for a team that is built on speed..but he fits some check marks. id now go get Iginla and call it a day. fill in the rest of the roster from within.

Hopefully alain can keep him fresh for the playoffs with limited minutes. Has fitness ever been a problem with boyle?

i dont get this "lazy" comments im seeing from a bunch of people. would it be "hard working" if they signed Ehrhoff who clearly wanted to play in Pittsburgh.???

i dunno. i think "lazy" is a "lazy" way of arguing against a player without taking the time to explain why you dont like the deal.

Because he's like 38 and has been declining for the last few years.

he finishes his career here with a chance to win a cup. boyle and marty go way back to tampa days.

hes a very good pp guy and can bring the offense. hes a legit offensive guy from the blue line.

term is great. price is steep but thats why its 2 yrs.

he will make our pp (hopefully) better and play adequate protected minutes 5on5.

would prefer stralman but really boyle is the best purely offensive guy available.

looks like staal stays a ranger.

the sharks D isnt very good and they played him over 21 minutes per game. only way hes coming close to that here is if we are somehow a puck possession god team that constantly has offensive zone starts. i cant see AV putting boyle out there very often in defensive zone faceoff situations.

Hoping this guy is physically capable of doing what he has been brought here to do. I haven't watched him too much over the past couple of seasons, but his stats are not impressive and Sharks fans seem to think he's lost a step or two. I suppose this is OK if he can still move the puck and get some shots through on the PP, but unless he finds a second wind I'm afraid we'll all be bummed about this signing.

As in "old" Rangers. They signed a 37 year old to a 2 year deal

So, the Rangers are in a position to sign a 37 year old. What's the issue? Does it really matter how old a player is for a team that JUST won the Eastern Conference?

Who would you sign as an alternative?

Despite what many would have you believe, this isn't a terrible deal.

I agree. $4.5 is not bad. The only downside is that because of his age, instead of money, he'll be getting $4.5 million worth of Depends and prune juice.

Why are they in a position to sign a player who doesn't skate that well anymore or defend that well anymore?

There was really no better way to spend 4.5M in cap space for the next two years?

Don't hate it. Our PP is better today. And maybe he'll help McDonagh and Moore develop their offensive game.
