And where is the $10+ m coming from?

Smith has done a good job in the playoffs. No denying that. But if he expects to be paid over $5m, then he is going to have to get in on a different team.

They have cap space to sign Smith. I think we can get him on a 4x4 type deal.

To add more cap space:

Trade Nash for starters, trade Holden and Klein for whatever, see if Staal will waive his NTC (I think he would depending on the team), and maybe even buyout Girardi if you have to.

After that call up Graves next season.

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Graves-Clendo (with AV though, lol)

That's a big revamped defense right there.

Anyone who thinks Smith is being brought back should be bracing for disappointment.

He's being mishandled like Yandle, and the team doesn't even realistically have the space to sign him without moving other guys.

A shame really, the guy has easily been one of the top 2 defensemen the past couple weeks\

Were Girardi and McDonagh literally in the -20s? Even with how poorly we played that seems a bit crazy.

Yes, they were. I think saw I saw someone post on Twitter they were like -25 or something

How is Smith being mishandled like Yandle? I don't see that, while I definitely did with Yandle.

I think unlike Yandle, Smith will be brought back (assuming he doesn't want something crazy like 5-5.5 mil)

Reading the tealeaves, the Rangers definitely want to bring him back.

Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't and G and Staal are right back there in the top 4 at the start of next year. AV loves him some bad defensemen and the organization has way too much loyalty to these guys.

Mishandled like Yandle? First of all, nice rhyme. Second, what's the common denominator? The ****ing imbecile behind the bench. Please get rid of this guy Gorton.

Does anyone have Smith and Skjei's Corsi numbers for game 2?

According to Hockeystats.ca

Skjei
5v5: 25CF 25CA 50CF%
All-Sit: 27CF 27CA 50CF%

Smith
5v5: 22CF 21CA 51.16CF%
All-Sit: 23CF 23CA 50CF%

EDIT: I didn't refresh the page and see that you were already answered -_-

at the very least with Yandle you had that story book bull **** about him being bad defensively and sawft so Staaled played more than him. What's the story now ? A younger, better at literally everything player is here and likely won't command a fortune and Staal is still getting the nod .

Av is either delusional or letting his personal feelings about players override what's best for the team, neither is good. I hate the guy more than the plague right now.

If there's 2 things I absolutely hate about AV, it's his love for Tanner Glass, and picking defensive players/pairings.

and you know what, the Glass thing doesn't even bother me that much in regards to AV. this nonsense going on as long as the it has is the fault of management. and every coach of the NHL has an inexplicable affair with a worthless grinder.

but how you put the system together, and then make sure you play only the wrong personnel for it, just boggles me.

Can someone explain to me if management is ever on the same page as the coach when it comes to personnel decisions. At least three players that we acquired via trade midseason have been misused by AV. Yandle, Smith, and James Sheppard.

How has Smith been misused? Sheppard and Yandle? Yeah, they were misused.

But, I don't think AV has actually misused Smith.
