Don't Staal-Holden get more minutes? And even if they don't, they should be getting A LOT fewer minutes and Skjei-Smith should have been on in the final seconds last night.

They didn't last night, Smith and Skjei played more.

Holden and Staal had no business being out there during the final minute though. The latter has no business playing in the NHL but I digress.

smith was truly amazing last night. he was skilled with puck, physical and not taking any crap after the habs were trying to get to Hank. Not taking anything away from him but its nice to see whoever plays with Skjei elevates their game (clendo, smith).
Skjei's combinations of skating and size must make it easier on his d partner to just play their own game.

Rumors out of Detroit are that they were talking about a deal for 3 years with a $3.5M AAV. I'd give him a 4th year to knock the price down a bit. Basically, something in the ballpark of Klein's current contract would be perfect
If that is the price tag, count me in. I am all for that. Including the 4th year.

They have cap space to sign Smith. I think we can get him on a 4x4 type deal.

To add more cap space:

Trade Nash for starters, trade Holden and Klein for whatever, see if Staal will waive his NTC (I think he would depending on the team), and maybe even buyout Girardi if you have to.

After that call up Graves next season.

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Graves-Clendo (with AV though, lol)

That's a big revamped defense right there.
And who is taking Nash's contract? And for that matter trade "holden and Klien for whatever" still need takers. Buy out Girardi? Great. And now consider the hit to the cap that it will have. Remind me how you got Staal to waive his NTC?

Making statements in a vacuum is nice. Actually discussing reality may be a far different situation.

And btw, has Clendening showed that he is a bona fide started in the NHL yet?

TrueBlue I think Nash, Holden, and Klein are moveable...we'd just have to retain on Nash and only get so-so picks for Holden and Klein. All 3 of them are only contracted for 1 more season, so any team trading for them is not taking on a boatload of years. I imagine we could move them easily if our main want is just to open Cap Space and we're not worried about getting a big return. This is very realistic. Buying out G do-able, but I agree that the penalty Cap hits would be annoying. But we could survive it...

Staal we cannot move...I agree. The NMC is fully restrictive. He's going nowhere.

I am fine with only getting so-so picks for Holden and Klien. The rumors for Nash was that the return was only pennies on the dollars and Gorton wanted no part of that, past year.

It's where we retain salary and take a dead space cap hit, that can be a pricey situation.

I saw a after the whistle deal where Weber easily shoved Smith away. I like Smith a lot. On the other hand I'm really impressed with how strong Weber is in these games. I think I took him for granted a bit before this series. I'm glad we have Smith, McD, and Girardi showing some snarl.

I noticed yesterday how he was so unnoticable....

After being paired with Staal. That should show you how bad Staal is...

On the contrary when he was paired with McDonagh, they were monsters on the ice

I still thought he was very noticeable. Defensemen who attempt to exit the zone with possession really stand out here.

If the Rangers needed a puck moving D-man for a cup run than wouldn't have big daddy Yandle gotten the job done? I actually like Smith but we need a solid two-way center how can distribute on the power play and makes everyone else on the ice better.

Yep. He's a ****ing warrior.

LOL at the handful of folks who predicted he'd sit. Guy is made for the playoffs.

The guys doesn't take ****. Kinda of guy you want on your team in the playoffs and he has skill. The opposition does not like Smith. They aren't used to getting push back from a Ranger dman like that. Hence the crack to his wrist.
