I have a hard time understanding why someone wouldn't like what Smith has brought.

Not a first pairing d-man, but doesn't look too out of place when he's put into those minutes. He's calm with the puck, and overall his positioning is solid and so is his decision-making. Plays with a welcome edge, too. He seemed to be the only one with a pulse against Ottawa today.

I like him, he's not great but I like the way he plays I think it's necessary with snowflakes like Holden, Clendening, Staal on our roster

Came here with the reputation of a playoff performer and has not disappointed. He's a must re-sign.

He was the only defenseman on our team other than maybe Ericsson who was physical. I miss him because of that

Glad to see hes doing well, especially in the postseason. He's definitely been very good for us in the playoffs over the years.

Im very happy he gives us some extra snarl on defense. We need it. He was a good pickup so far.

Looking at the UFA D-man list, sucks that we will probably have no chance to keep him.

Was really hoping they were going to extend him quickly after they got him, but there was really no reason for him not to go to July 1 once he got traded.

Think Vegas would be wise to sign him to a 4-5 year deal since they will have plenty of minutes and money to give away.

Smith has to be re-signed. Then sign Shatty as a free agent.
And where is the $10+ m coming from?

Smith has done a good job in the playoffs. No denying that. But if he expects to be paid over $5m, then he is going to have to get in on a different team.

Smith is showing everyone that his playoff reputation is well-deserved. Would love to bring him back.

Good teams are built from the back end out . We have a glut of forwards and we should start by removing the softer ones from the team and filling them with younger hungrier guys . I won't mention any names but I am sure many can think of a couple who have not showed up yet in the series so far . Smith has been AWESOME for us .

Rumors out of Detroit are that they were talking about a deal for 3 years with a $3.5M AAV. I'd give him a 4th year to knock the price down a bit. Basically, something in the ballpark of Klein's current contract would be perfect

I get the same vibe now that I got from Stralman's 2014 playoffs where we watched him be our 2nd best player and then let him walk.

Oh, and that shift Smith had that led to Zuccarello's goal was absolutely incredible.

Im surprised Smith doesn't look for his own offense more. He has good offensive hands, a solid shot, and a pretty good toe drag.
