The most surprising aspect in my opinion, JD saw the dark years and beyond, all the throwing money at it, all the signings that did not work out as envisioned. That Columbus with a better overall roster, early picks and all, some of which who took longer to establish themselves than most would expect or failed to ever even do so, plus Panarin on a cheaper cap hit, all of that did not equate to more than a 1st and 2nd round exit, yet here we are.

Do you believe in second chances?

Is there a scenario in which we are able to hold Kreider and make it work against the cap?

I happen to be in a camp that would deal Skjei first - and for a better bounty - but that’s not a realistic scenario.

As for Panarin, I don’t have words. This is going to be a lot of fun. We deserve this good fortune.

this year you can move others to keep kreider...not sure that you can extend him and have it still make sense, but depends on the deal.

So, I've been unable to confirm, but supposedly the Rangers did move a small amount from the offer they were committed to --- probably about half-a-million. But the Rangers were not the top offer, in fact, they might not even have been in the top 3.
Wow, guess that shows how committed he was with his decision. We have seen it time and time again (and in other sports) that no matter where the player "truly" wants to be, the almighty dollar most of the time presides.

I wonder his reasoning choosing the Rangers. Obvious answer might be orig6, but other than that? Best friends with someone? Wants to stick it to Tortarella? (Lol) Anyone?

What number do people think Panarin will wear? He's worn #9 and #72. 72 is taken and 9 is retired. Any guesses?

Gorton used FA to bring Chara into the Boston team. That move kicked them into being competitors, not immediately, but they have had some run.. If this has a similar effect on the Rangers would anyone be upset? Also, the FA move defined the identity of the club. Does signing Panarin indicate the Rangers will be looking to be a high end skill with constant puck pressure team? This fits in with the other acquisitions and the game preached by David Quinn from day 1. The cap hit is tough but if the TV money goes crazy, will anyone really care?

He only trails McDavid, Kane and Crosby in ES Scoring since joining the League. That alone makes me not care

Hours later I thought I’d feel better about this signing but still find myself shaking my head, saying WTF Rangers and hoping for the best.

You are entitled to your opinion but this sounded over the top to me. They didn't sign a 35 year old here.

Knowing how hockey players are, he'll probably just flip the 72 and go with 27.
