To be fair man, they did say that getting Kakko changed everything. I don't think they are expecting him to come in and be a 35 point rookie. I think they have massive expectations of him and where this team is going. I mean, Kravtsov is an absolute unit. Trouba. Fox.

I think that on April 8th, if we were planning on pulling a hard right it would have required going through dirt roads in a Toyota Corolla. After getting that pick, it was like the roads were freshly paved and we could fly down them in a Mustang.
Love your post, especially the part in which I drive.
Lets hope the Rangers cant drive only 55. I really have to believe that "not only" the org. doesn't want to have to deal with negative press for NOT going after a legit player that WANTED to come here (yeah, ala Marty and Shatty), but to possibly avoid a "losing" mentality and fast forward things a little with......yes, the 2nd pick having very much to do with it.
An about face, or a 180 if you will.

Okay, obviously yes in this case. Everyone pounced on me. Now, I know. I am old enough to know, people can be ruthless. Sorry for NOT knowing he was offered more elsewhere. I had better keep up with the times a bit better. Should have KNOWN better. (Richard Marx anyone?) Or, do people NOT know that song?

I actually love that song. I am now totally over you not knowing Panarin took less. You are now my best friend.

So, I've been unable to confirm, but supposedly the Rangers did move a small amount from the offer they were committed to --- probably about half-a-million. But the Rangers were not the top offer, in fact, they might not even have been in the top 3.
Thanks Edge for not reaming me. #classact

You are entitled to your opinion but this sounded over the top to me. They didn't sign a 35 year old here.

Not over the top just a long suffering and thus jaded fan. Panarin is a great player. I just feel we would have been better served sucking it up one more year to really do it right. We need a young top line C more than a PPG playmaking winger IMHO. Players become available in trade just like Trouba. We will have the assets to go get the C we need, now I just worry if we will have the cap space. And if a few of our prospects really hit they will need big $$$ in a few years.

Push for the cup hope for the best

Thats why you shouldn't worry. We have a lot of money coming off the cap shortly and it will likely increase going forward. The fact that we were talking to Edmonton to try to trade up to grab a C (Zegras) shows that they realized the need and will continue to pursue it.

Funny that the TSN dais is discussing the cap system and how they would all love a system that allowed teams to keep their big name players by granting each team a single player cap exemption.

Keep the conversation going into the next CBA please... then all of this Panarin stuff wouldnt matter. Probably would use it on Kakko at that point but it would certainly help the big market teams like the Rangers.

Not sure what your talking about to be honest. St.Louis was a different animal as he was NOT a UFA. Did we pay too much to get him? Yeah we did but it was a gamble to win the Cup and we came 3 games too short.

Shatty was not an over pay at all as he gave us a " I love NYC and I've been a Ranger fan since I was a wee little boy growing up in CT" discount

Panarin is not an overpay either seeing it's already been mentioned by some credible sources that Panarin turned down more $$ from the Islanders to sign with us.

Bottom line Sather was the irresponsible one. But if anything, Gorton has shown he is probably the most fiscally responsible GM we've ever had. So like I said not sure where you are going here and what your referring too that we are outbidding ourselves.
You know I love you Max, but we can surely agree to disagree. You are absolutely correct in breaking down separately each deal. I (oth) collectively had the "thinking" that in every scenario, each of these players "wanted the Rangers". Okay, they gave us discounts. Shatty was a mistake from the getgo (discount or not), Marty......yeah they gambled and lost. I guess, you win some you lose some. That particular move pissed me off, because I loved Cally (but not what he was asking) but losing those picks did it for me.

I guess all in all.......I don't like ANYONE getting everything they want, and then NOT to produce.......well then THAT takes the cake. Here is to hoping Panarin doesn't fit into those scenarios.

Just remember......not EVERYONE can handle the big city lights.
Although Panarin did play in Chicago.....shouldnt be that different. Again, I am all for this move.
