I mean the common theme put out there is that if they got Panarin, Kreider was out.

There will be a much more substantial market for Kreider than there was for Vesey.

Serious question: Who are the frontrunners for Kreider? I had thought that Gorton was working deals on the side simultaneously with getting Panarin. But we're mid-afternoon now on the East Coast, and there are no announcements and nothing seems to be brewing.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer about the signing of Panarin, in fact I was rooting for it to happen all along.......but why does it seem like we overpay for players that want to come to our Rangers? Shouldn't there be a discount included here? Let me see..... Marty St. Louis wanted here, and we got reamed, Shattenkirk wanted to come here and you see how that's presenting itself and now the Breadman, when we have perfectly produced Bagels already. Am I wrong in saying we are outbidding ourselves?

Not sure what your talking about to be honest. St.Louis was a different animal as he was NOT a UFA. Did we pay too much to get him? Yeah we did but it was a gamble to win the Cup and we came 3 games too short.

Shatty was not an over pay at all as he gave us a " I love NYC and I've been a Ranger fan since I was a wee little boy growing up in CT" discount

Panarin is not an overpay either seeing it's already been mentioned by some credible sources that Panarin turned down more $$ from the Islanders to sign with us.

Bottom line Sather was the irresponsible one. But if anything, Gorton has shown he is probably the most fiscally responsible GM we've ever had. So like I said not sure where you are going here and what your referring too that we are outbidding ourselves.

I dont' think they meant Kakko in particular, moreso that winning the lottery and knowing they'd get to pick Hughes or Kakko made them feel like they could go out and spend more in FA as the pieces for the rebuild just got better

Yes i missed the point. Agreed.

At double the cost. The biggest reason to trade Kreider right now as opposed to during the season is the savings on cap space, so if we are moving him this offseason, it will be at full boat, or close to it. After today, and RFA signings, how many teams in the market For a rental winger will be able just take a 4.6M cap increase, that also are not our bitter rivals?

Wherever I'm standing atm
They made the finals with Richards and St Louis on the squad. Isnt the goal to win a Cup?
Maybe with someone else we win it?

Either way...wow did you ever totally miss the point by a mile

Hey we won the cup with Eddie Olczyck on the squad. 10/10 would black ace Olczyck again. Clearly a crucial piece by virtue of just being there.

He may be waiting to see who missed out on UFAs.

Panarin knows Lundqvist well: Scored his first NHL goal against him, and scored his only two hat-tricks against him.

I didn't really want this signing, but nonetheless I support my team... GO BREADMAN, GO! I am just hoping either Chytil, Howden, or Andersson continue their developments and one can be a legit top 6 C.

St Louis and Richards were pretty important for the Rangers in making those couple of runs

Whether it was worth the price paid, since they didn't win the cup, is ultimately the bigger question, but trying to downplay their role just makes your argument look weaker.

So negative!

I've noticed over the years here that alot of the Negative Nancy's and Debbie Downers here on the board will never ever be happy or satisfied with anything the team does. And this "I'm the smartest guy in the room" facade takes over and then the condescending comments commence. I just laugh and move on as they can think whatever negative crap they want.

I suggest you do the same as Panarin could score 100 points this season and we'll draft 3-4 more solid players in next years draft and it still won't be good enough because we don't know right this very minute if Panarin as a 33 year old will score 80+ points in 2025 even tho by than, the team likely wouldn't need him to do that anymore....lol.

Is there a scenario in which we are able to hold Kreider and make it work against the cap?

I happen to be in a camp that would deal Skjei first - and for a better bounty - but that’s not a realistic scenario.

As for Panarin, I don’t have words. This is going to be a lot of fun. We deserve this good fortune.

7-1 rolls around and JD is like, Sather hold my beer.
We can all thank god that Sather is just a beer holder these days.

Yes they can manuever to keep Kreider. The trade talk never really seemed to be about cap space this year, as it was more about whether the Rangers wanted to pay him $$$ starting in 2020 when he would be a UFA.

F it...go trade for Aho.

Montreal just sent him an offer sheet, 5 years, 42 million, 8.4 per.

Call Carolina and tell them they can have Zibanejad if they’ll trade him to us instead.

This is classic Gorton. His signature through and through. Don’t call it a short cut. Don’t call it a “quick” whatever. This is pure genius what this guy had accomplished in such little time. He did it with Boston, of which the roster he was mostly responsible of putting together went on to win the stanley cup soon later.

You have Kakko, Panarin, and Kravtsov as your elite 3 up front to build around.

You have a rock solid Trouba, Fox, and Hajek on your back end to build around. Let’s not forget about Hajek. The kid is going to be the real deal.

Don’t get me started on the goaltending.....

This rebuild is pretty much set. Without getting that lottery pick and taking someone like Kakko we wouldn’t be at this stage. We would probably not be talking about signing Panarin either, which i believe couldn’t be a more perfect time to sign him considering the circumstances.

Back in the winter my dream plan was exactly this - trade for Trouba, win draft lottery - Kakko, and then bring Panarin. This last step is the riskiest and that's why to me it was contingent on the first two. Gorton - BRAVO!

As far as the contract goes, it's a steeper price than I expected even as recent as a month ago but given where the market headed - I trust that Gorton figured out how it will work for the Rangers long term.

Is the rebuild over? I think it will be over when 1st round draft picks get moved for rentals. For now it's just the next phase in the process. I also disagree with assertion that the results will be expected ASAP. There is A LOT of talent here but most of it is very young and / or inexperienced. There will be at least one more year to figure out the long-term core where whatever the points total will be viewed as a by-product of continuing development.

The final point - JD. Don't forget that in the past two years as CBJ President he had an insider view into Panarin.
