I can think of one positive from last nights game..imagine if this was the same result at home at MSG...

@Sean_Leahy: Brad Stuart will have a disciplinary hearing Weds for his hit on Rick Nash last night

I generally agree.

But a loss is different than a 9-2 loss in my mind. You have to try to lose that hard or, more specifically, not try.

What right does this squad have to turn in a performance like that in front of a brand new coach? Its disgusting.

Totally agree...I hate the "I told you so stuff" but I also hate the "i'm the better fan because i can persevere" stuff too. I also agree that this is only the 3rd game in a new system but what worries me is that even learning a new system, the heart shouldn't be as issue...it has been this young season.

Well, that was bad. Hard for me to chalk it up as just another loss when the Rangers haven't given up that many goals since Redden and Kotalik were on the team.

The lack of resiliency last night was disturbing. We all knew the Rangers were going to face adversity to start the season, and if last night's game is any example of how they deal with it... oh boy. Learning a new system and playing a back-to-back games is no excuse for the players to just quit like that.

Not every game is going to be like Monday night against the Kings. Bad breaks and injuries happen all the time in this league as evidenced last night. The players are going to have to man up when things don't go their way and at the very least limit the damage so things don't spiral out of control.

Meh. I discount the "heart" stuff too, especially on the west coast early in the season.

There are games where **** just seems to pile up (and in this case **** included losing the team's best forward) and it spirals out of control and the guys need a night's rest and a fresh start to recover. You see it happen to all teams in all sports every now and again - and, outside of playoff games, sometimes it's just impossible to re-engage midway through especially after the other guys have just scored ANOTHER goal. Sometimes the game just goes over the edge and it's a lost cause.

This team went 3 seasons managing to lose by more than 3 goals only once. They didnt like playing that style anymore, wanted to open things up, wanted to have fun.

3 games in with a new staff and they lose by 7 goals? Somethings wrong here. If anything, this team should be competing harder.

It's 3 games into the season and the team is learning a brand new system, with a brand new coaching staff, and several new players on the roster. It's going to take time. A couple of losses isn't going to validate anything anymore than a couple of wins will. All of this "I told you so" junk being thrown around is a bunch of nonsense.

This.

It's three games (all on the road) into the season, one of which was a nice win against a very good team on their opening night. There will be ups and downs, especially early...give it time.

Just watched some of the postgame interviews on the Rangers website, and atleast it was good to see that Callahan was genuinely aggravated by the teams performance calling it embarrassing and unacceptable....

Also judging by AV's interview it seems that if the league rules allowed, the rangers probably would have probably had a tough practice today, but he says the league mandates a day off.

My concerns with this team right now are that I don't think there is a lot of 'finish' in the players that are in the top 6.... While I don't think Pouliot, Brassard and Zucc have played bad it would have been nice to see one of them put a goal in one of these first few games...... My other problem with the team is that there just simply isn't enough guys on this team that finish their checks, and I'm sure people here will mostly disagree but this needs more grit on their bottom lines, they just seem too soft

If it was a 9-2 loss after the team had a couple days to rest and they were at home, I'd agree. However, with the amount of traveling this team has done over the last few weeks, it's pretty clear that they're out of shape and tired. The entire team looked out of sorts from the get go. I'm not sure it was an issue of effort, but more the fact that they were completely out of sync.

I'm expecting this team to come back to NY below, perhaps well below the .500 mark. It's not a great situation for the players or the coaches. They need the chance to reset and find a level of comfort before I think they'll start to make progress. Unfortunately this road schedule doesn't allow for that. Having training camp in Banff was a big mistake, IMO.

We're probably somewhere in between an embarrassing loss to SJ and a dominant win over LA which makes us a good team when everyone starts playing at their normal ability. Don't think SJ will stay this high all year etc ..

Honestly the Stuart hit won't warrant much of a suspension, 1-2 games tops if anything. Is it just me or were the Sharks rubbing it in. That 4th Hertl goal, at that stage of the game and with the score the way it was came off as cockiness. The kid is 19 and needs a lesson IMO. Maybe not going out and giving the guy a headshot but pay your dues in this league. Hope he fizzles out and is in the AHL by seasons end.

I am more embarrassed than anything else. The lack of any kind f response or heart or "give-a-****" was downright embarrassing. I would be ashamed if I were in that locker room.

Perfect Storm; no legs due to back to back; they are very good and rested; Nash out; bounces galore (goals 5 and 6).

However, what is concerning is the fact that Biron can't stop a runny nose and Hank should never had let in that first goal; changed the momentum of the game. They would have prevailed anyhow but giving up a short handed wrist shot from the very high slot is unacceptable doesn't help to keep us in it a little longer. Our goaltending which has been our rock for a long time may be starting to trend down.

You lose your superstar to an illegal elbow, they run up the score with an embarrassing goal, the game slips to 6-1, your starting goalie is embarrassed and pulled, you leave traffic in front of your own goalie all night and never retaliate against a team that has humiliated us in the press in the past? That could very well be the definition of lack of heart in my book.

You're coming as close as one can come of convincing me that a 9-2 loss is acceptable in some way, but I don't think I'll ever get over that hump.

People continually ask why the '11-12 team is so revered. For me, its because they showed up to play every night with no excuses.

That wasn't true for the first 9 games of the year.

this team is developing. problem is, it may develop in the wrong direction. its very early to panic but trends are trends. offensive talent doesnt develop like team chemistry does.

games like last night happen. cant read too much into it but its something that causes unease.

i still see very little scoring and no pure offensive talent. we just lack anyone who can really snipe it. this isnt a new problem either. gaby would look nice on this team right now.

we will always be a "win now" organization. hank aint getting any younger either.

if i am mcilrath, jt miller or ck, im genuinely concerned i may be package away in a move to get this team some scoring help now. knee jerk deals pretty much suck, but we need a goal scorer and without it, goal scoring will be the problem for this team more than goals against.

and adding "speed" doesnt necessarily add goals. just sayin.

for times like this I miss Aaron Voros.... look at this Rangers team compaired to now. So quick to stick up for Gaborik. Where is that team's heart? Sather traded it away...

The Kings were blown out 8-2 at Detroit the year they won the Cup.

The Rangers could have lost this game 15-2. Chalk this one up to the schedule makers.

Like I said during the preseason, if the Rangers can open at MSG with at least four wins, they'll be fine.

And its not only the fact that the Rangers are on the road -- look at who they are on the road against and how well those teams play at home.

No sugarcoating this one. Win the next one and move on.

Yeah, seeing how bad Carolina, Florida, and Philly looks this year and the fact that we can't play against them for another 3 weeks is tough...

BUT, the Isles DESTROYED the Yotes yesterday (just watched the highlights)... Dear god, Isles look good. We were simply horrible against the yotes.

I'm not even talking about the Hertl thing. Just the state of the board in general. Everything and everyone sucks when we're not playing well. It's always time to panic, trade people, our window has closed, and so on. It's ****ing ridiculous.

it's quite comical, actually :p

Captain Drury concussed by glencross

Gaborik mauled by Carcillo

Mcdonagh hit high by paccioretty and boarded by ovechkin

Nash hit to the head 2x

Nice heritage of cowardice we're developing. Shameful.

They can layout Callahan Thursday and no one will lift a finger.

We sign fodder like Pouliite and Pyatt.

Shouldn't have fired Torts...

Still can't believe so many people here were convinced that Torts was the issue. He got the most out of this team.

torts also forced some of our heart into premature retirement. I thought dorsett was gonna be this guy? IF he can't /won't do it...there are others more hungry to play.

Heart is what we were missing last year, and they need to stop it right away before it becomes a problem again. I really thought we took a big step against the kings, the final score was just a bonus to me. But then to come in the next night and play completely opposite is mind boggling.

Ok I said what I feel about heart and how it related to this team...I'm going to stop now.

No.

Coaches like Torts do get the most out of their team for a period of time (usually a few years), but they have a shelf life. Torts' shelf life expired and it was time to move on.
