I generally agree.
But a loss is different than a 9-2 loss in my mind. You have to try to lose that hard or, more specifically, not try.
What right does this squad have to turn in a performance like that in front of a brand new coach? Its disgusting.
Totally agree...I hate the "I told you so stuff" but I also hate the "i'm the better fan because i can persevere" stuff too. I also agree that this is only the 3rd game in a new system but what worries me is that even learning a new system, the heart shouldn't be as issue...it has been this young season.
Well, that was bad. Hard for me to chalk it up as just another loss when the Rangers haven't given up that many goals since Redden and Kotalik were on the team.
The lack of resiliency last night was disturbing. We all knew the Rangers were going to face adversity to start the season, and if last night's game is any example of how they deal with it... oh boy. Learning a new system and playing a back-to-back games is no excuse for the players to just quit like that.
Not every game is going to be like Monday night against the Kings. Bad breaks and injuries happen all the time in this league as evidenced last night. The players are going to have to man up when things don't go their way and at the very least limit the damage so things don't spiral out of control.
Meh. I discount the "heart" stuff too, especially on the west coast early in the season.
There are games where **** just seems to pile up (and in this case **** included losing the team's best forward) and it spirals out of control and the guys need a night's rest and a fresh start to recover. You see it happen to all teams in all sports every now and again - and, outside of playoff games, sometimes it's just impossible to re-engage midway through especially after the other guys have just scored ANOTHER goal. Sometimes the game just goes over the edge and it's a lost cause.
It's 3 games into the season and the team is learning a brand new system, with a brand new coaching staff, and several new players on the roster. It's going to take time. A couple of losses isn't going to validate anything anymore than a couple of wins will. All of this "I told you so" junk being thrown around is a bunch of nonsense.

I am more embarrassed than anything else. The lack of any kind f response or heart or "give-a-****" was downright embarrassing. I would be ashamed if I were in that locker room.

If it was a 9-2 loss after the team had a couple days to rest and they were at home, I'd agree. However, with the amount of traveling this team has done over the last few weeks, it's pretty clear that they're out of shape and tired. The entire team looked out of sorts from the get go. I'm not sure it was an issue of effort, but more the fact that they were completely out of sync.
I'm expecting this team to come back to NY below, perhaps well below the .500 mark. It's not a great situation for the players or the coaches. They need the chance to reset and find a level of comfort before I think they'll start to make progress. Unfortunately this road schedule doesn't allow for that. Having training camp in Banff was a big mistake, IMO.
You're coming as close as one can come of convincing me that a 9-2 loss is acceptable in some way, but I don't think I'll ever get over that hump.
People continually ask why the '11-12 team is so revered. For me, its because they showed up to play every night with no excuses.
The Kings were blown out 8-2 at Detroit the year they won the Cup.
The Rangers could have lost this game 15-2. Chalk this one up to the schedule makers.
Like I said during the preseason, if the Rangers can open at MSG with at least four wins, they'll be fine.
And its not only the fact that the Rangers are on the road -- look at who they are on the road against and how well those teams play at home.
No sugarcoating this one. Win the next one and move on.
I'm not even talking about the Hertl thing. Just the state of the board in general. Everything and everyone sucks when we're not playing well. It's always time to panic, trade people, our window has closed, and so on. It's ****ing ridiculous.
Shouldn't have fired Torts...
Still can't believe so many people here were convinced that Torts was the issue. He got the most out of this team.
for times like this I miss Aaron Voros.... look at this Rangers team compaired to now. So quick to stick up for Gaborik. Where is that team's heart? Sather traded it away...
