How many here sold hank night on jan 28 and are worried it may get postponed? I'm in that camp as mine sold the day it was announced at a substantial price

I gotta imagine that even if it's postponed, they just move the game and a ceremony to a date later in the season so it wouldn't have an impact on sales standing on Ticket Exchange, StubHub, etc. If you sold direct to someone who comes to you wanting their money back, that might be a different story. Given how much they charged people through the box office themselves, how much people shelled out on the secondary market, the hype, etc I can't imagine they delay it to next season or anything like that.

I have never ever ever been able to sell a ticket on ticketmaster no matter the game or price. I invariably have to list them on stub hub which is a true PITA now that you have to list, then transfer the tickets. I did it last year and the buyer didn't accept and tried to f*** me out of the tickets.

If just the ceremony itself gets postponed, but they play the game, the secondary buyers of the tickets are SOL. If the game on Jan 28th itself is cancelled - we would end up not getting the money for the resale, only would get the refund for the face value. If the game is postponed and played at a later date, again the secondary buyers would still have the tickets and whoever sold them would get paid.

apparently not true for your 3rd point..TM allowed the buyer of my November 28 Isles game to get a refund and my buyer chose to do so..the tix are now back in my MSG account

So did everyone else get a StubHub email asking for tax info? Can someone ELI5 that tax implications of selling tickets now? I assume it will be treated as "income" even if you sell at or below face?

TM has been solid for me thorough the years but not this year..too many blue dots (unsold inventory) and verified resale not turned on automatically (perhaps Purposely by MSG), and obviously the ongoing pandemic scaring buyers committing early or going

They better not screw over all the people who bought tickets for that game for 5-6x the face value price by doing that. Brooks has some premium article on the Post that i cant read but he said they should move it. If the arena is still at 100% than it should be on.

Your cost basis is the amount you paid so if you sell below face I would imagine that would offset the games you sell over face(if any, LOL).

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
I weighed various options and decided to purchase 1/28 tickets from the Rangers (Ticketmaster) because this way I have some recourse if the ceremony is moved or canceled. I would imagine they will do everything possible to hold this date because of the shear size of the gate. Tough to walk away from $3MM+

Seems like if they really wanted to postpone it, simplest option would be to go to the league and have the entire game and ceremony postponed until March or April. Seems like an easy enough ask given the league is already postponing Canadian games for revenue reasons.

I need to look into this. The 3 that were cancelled still say sold and out of my account. I have to find out if there is a clause for the buyer, in which if the game is postponed they have the right to a refund. If so, that's bad news. Similar to when an airline changes your flight to a different day and per the faa you're entitled to a full refund.

I think that’s what happened to me. The Dec 27 game will be a disaster if buyers ask for refunds. I don’t blame them. Those prices were jacked up for Xmas. MSG needs to step up

A bit of a weird proposition: I have two center-ice tickets to Lundqvist night (Section 212, row 21, slight bridge obstruction of the scoreboard) but was hoping to sit more goal-side for the game instead. Does anyone have a pair on either end and is willing to trade (and I'd be happy to include a $ amount if the tickets are worth different amounts)?

Anyone get an email from ticketmaster requesting tax info for 1099k? My edmonton game sold in the 2022 tax year and i got that email saying i cant be paid until i upload info. I did not get this email for any games that were sold in 2021 tax year (even if played in 2022). I believe this is the new law that took effect in 2022 as paypal and venmo have the same $600 nonsense.

Looks like the taxes apply for games paid in 2022 tax year

If this true then I think its really time for these tickets to go.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what would count towards 2022 and what would count towards 2021. And you're correct, it's for the new $600 law that was passed. Every one of these companies is asking for SSN's including even Facebook.

You'll be getting a 1099 from any third party payment processor/marketplace/etc if you sell over $600 on the year on their platform. Includes Venmo, PayPal, Facebook, Ticketmaster, StubHub, eBay, etc. Old threshold was 200 transactions and 20K in sales but that's been reduced to a flat $600 for the year.

Anyone selling should keep in mind - if you sell over $600 that will initiate Ticketmaster/Stubhub to create your 1099. The total sales number is not what you pay tax on. You only pay tax on any profit you make on ticket sales. I don't know about you, but I have been taking losses on most of my sales, so there won't be any income to tax, even if that form is initiated for me and my tax ID.

Just need to make sure you keep good records of everything for when tax time comes. I'd also recommend everyone download and save their invoice which reflects per game pricing for documentation purposes.
