Nice score with the lounge ticket, too bad game sucked. I can only go to game 6 this series, was annoyed I had to sell tonight, but then I watched the game and said thank goodness I made some cash.

Hopefully they can make me regret it on Wednesday.

Really interested to see how our 2 goose eggs will affect the market and the bandwagon fans. Last nights performance was pathetic and might prevent some of the casual fans from shelling out the cash.

not quite, obstructed pair went for $26/ticket late, and 2 lowers went for $54

I picked up a single in the lounges for $65

game was a total dud, NHL really f'd us with this schedule

Nice coup! I thought the Rangers actually played well but the crowd was dead. Most of the STH in my section sold their tickets.

To many Pens fans and fair weathers around me. It was brutal.

Sold tomorrow, but a buddy invited me so I'll be going again haha. Bar stool seats.

strong market for tonight's game, all tickets will get sold

The Rangers are always a hot ticket in the playoffs. The only 2 games that were somewhat weak in recent years was last year on Mothers day vs the Caps which was a 4pm game coming off a loss which made it 3-2 Caps and 2 years ago Game 1 vs the Caps when the Rangers won a game 7 against the Senators at home then started the next series with only a single day off. Tonight should be a real hot ticket.

Game 1 v. New Jersey two years ago was also kind of weak coming off the 7 game Caps series.

I forgot about that one. In years past the Rangers would not let you post tickets for sale until the game was guaranteed to be played so when those game 7s ended STH only had 1 day to sell tickets via the Rangers T/E leaving StubHub,Ticket Weasel and a few other sites as the only place to resell tickets. This season the Rangers are allowing STH to sell all games at the start of the season making it much more convenient for both buyers and sellers.

Hey Rangers fans! I'm a Giants and Habs fan hopping over the pond to see the Giants-Colts at metlife. Whilst I'm over obviously seeing some nhl hockey has to be done. On the off chance the Habs are in town that week what kind of reception could a guy in a Habs jersey in the cheap seats expect?

Plenty of habs fans fill MSG when they come to down, shouldnt get any negative attention unless youre yelling and obnoxious while the habs are winning. That usually angers people. I had penguins fans behind me last night and they kept to themselves so they were left alone.

Still haven't renewed yet, and thinking i might've made a good move by waiting. Anybody else in the same boat? I'm sec 102, 19th row.

With the pre-season games as a sunk cost, i'm looking at $130/ticket in '14-15. I regularly sold seats this year 20-40% below face ($118). I'm not sure where the sudden re-surge in demand comes from next year, so unless i feel the "playoff option" is worth eating a few grand on overvalued reg season tix, i'm not sure it makes sense to renew.

Whatever happened to the concept of getting seasons to actually go to the games? I tend to notice that many STH would rather sell their tickets than go to the games. I wonder if other teams have similar situations with their STH fan base.

Most people have to sell some of their tickets so that they can AFFORD to go to games.

I love having season tickets, but they have become so overpriced that I have to sell some games to recoup some of my money.

When my family got season tickets in 2003 my tickets cost around 30-40 a ticket dollars.

I'm 24 now and my tickets this year were 143 a ticket (which I now have to pay for).

I completely understand how annoying it is, but the Rangers have essentially forced our hands on this. It's difficult to afford every game. I don't "like" selling my playoff tickets at all. I even moved upstairs to "cheap" seats and it was still $6,000+ for the entire playoffs.

I can't afford that and I need to sell at least one game a series so that I can go to most of them.

I sold last nights but bought a single and went to the game. I sold mine at a premium before the series started and bought the ticket last night for 40 bucks less then my face.

The fact that a lot of us go through this hassle to see a team that constantly puts us through misery, both on the ice and fiscally I think actually proves we are more dedicated then many fan bases.

How many people can afford to spend 10,000+ annually on hockey tickets?

when i started my season tickets in 06-07 as a high school senior (with my own money, not mom and dads) i went to about 30 games a year and it was $26 each. in college i went to sacred heart in fairfield, ct and still found a way to 30-35 games a year because i could still afford it and i believe the highest they got to was $36. now a few years later with more bills to pay and with tickets that are $55 each, my goal is to go to 15 games a year and not have to pay to go to a game or significantly reduce the cost of me going to games.

it is what it is, i'd much rather go to every home game, but its just not affordable anymore

I only went to 7 games during the regular season (and 2 of them were the Yankee Stadium games). I sold the rest. I used to go to 15-20 games per year. I do not look to make money on the sales during the regular season. I only want to break even. I live in Central Jersey and have a job and a 3 year old daughter. Very tough to get to many game during the year. Also, of course, I cannot afford to go to 20 games a year now with the ticket prices.

Imagine 26 bucks a ticket now haha. If only.

As a STH I am getting to the point of saying "Is it worth it". I happen to have a job with split shifts so when the schedule comes out there are at 10 games that I know I have to sell. Then my 3 kids have school activities so I am lucky if I can make 20-25 games a year. My playoff invoice was 20k this year for a possible 16 games which I don't mind paying if the product I am paying for is good. The last 2 home games the product su****!

You seem to fully understand why many of us have to sell games.

I do have them so I can attend games. Usually around 15-20 per year. You do realize it is a huge financial and time commitment to attend 41 home games, plus playoffs? Also, combine that with the time it takes to sell games you cannot attend.

STH or not, I will still attend plenty of games. The point is, given what I pay for my seats, it seems I'm better off buying in the secondary market. Its more convenient and less stress inducing.

This is the type of responses I'm seeing for most of the casual fans in the lower bowl who are effectively being priced out. Everyone would love to have upper bowl seating since it's affordable. However, there are just not enough seats and it's tough to continue to pay over $300 face per game.

I'm anticipating the same result from last season where there was a huge dropoff with renewals in the lower level compared to uppers.

Agreed, but that's kind of my point. If someone like myself, who is both a die hard and willing to shell out $100+ a ticket, is beginning to wonder if this is even worth it, than what are they going for? Maybe they think there is a large enough "business casual" market to fill those seats for 41 games. However, i highly doubt that is true, which means they could eventually find themselves with a fairly empty lower bowl.

I think Dolan has simply overplayed his hand as far as pricing is concerned. The re-sale value of my tix this season (including playoffs) in the secondary market has told me such.

The fact that MSG is a publicly traded company is definitely affecting how tickets are priced and who they're targeting as "fans". Their job is the effectively maximize shareholder value and they're going to do that buy going after the casual business fans who are willing to shell out the top dollar.

Look at a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers owned by the Rooney family. They've set very reasonable season ticket prices and want their fans to be in the seats, not the business execs. Since they are not public, they're able to do this for their fans.

Unfortunately, the path MSG is going down is going to eliminate the casual fan who can't afford expensive tickets. That's just the reality and as long as there are people who buy, Dolan and the MSG brass can care less. We're going to see that with the Knicks too in a few years. Everyone knows how much STHs with great seat locations are making off of those seats.

I definitely understand that. However, I even question the decision from a return on investment stand point. Its still hockey in a crowded sports market. How many casual fans are you going to get to pay $120+ in the lower bowl to see PHX, NSH, CBJ, WPG, FL, CGY, EDM, ect? There were even games against PIT and PHI I had to move this year that sold below face.

My point is, if STH holders are having to sell games well below face, the model is broken, no matter what fan you're targeting.

As a consumer, you have to vote with your wallet. If many STH in the lower bowl refuse to renew, they'll have no choice but to drop pricing, so that single game tickets will sell.

Just to add to this, I've never received so many last minute texts, emails, etc regarding tickets prior to games.

It seemed that almost any game I wanted to go to I could have bought this year. The re-sale value was incredibly down.

I am praying that my wait list on the upper bowl gets accepted for this year. I was moved up there for the playoffs which made my season. I'm hoping that's a good sign to move up there for the regular season.

The steelers have been a successful small market team and the bulk of their revenues are not from local fans. How woukd the steelers fare financially if they had to rely on a local cable channel for their television revenues? Plus it's football which has 8 home games per season (10 counting preseason). I don't think its a very good comparison.

You cannot compare Football to Hockey. You just cannot. It's not comparable in any way, shape or form.
