The TV deals are also insane. The NFL makes 2 Billion More then the MLB per year. They play 17 game seasons, while the MLB plays 162.
This is a statement from the Coyotes President/CEO AFTER the new, historic, major Canadian TV deal with Rogers.
The NHL doesn't SNIFF the NFL. They are comparing themselves to the NFL of 20 years ago. It is not in any way comparable. The NHL needs every dollar from concessions, ticket sales, jerseys, etc. That stuff is much more vital to this league then it is to the STeelers or any football team that gets a massive amount of $ from TV.

I renewed because sports tickets are a good asset to hold on to, but this season isn't going to win anyone Employee of the Month honors in the MSG account services department...
I renewed because I am only in my late 40's and if the Rangers keep winning the cup every 54 years they will win the cup in 2048 and I will only be 82 years old. So if I am still alive when I am 82, I will get to see another Stanley Cup in person. My season tickets by that time would have cost me approximately $500,000 in my lifetime considering price increases. Well worth one Stanley Cup. That is why I renewed.

I'm 26, I was 6 when the rangers won the cup. As the years go on, the memories of that cup final (whatever little memories I had to begin with) fade.
One cup every 54 years, looks like I'll be in my 60's the next time we raise lord stanley.
I did not renew. 9 year STH. It just costs too much. And I enjoy watching from home much more.

No. I've considered dropping out (also 9th year), but I have a partner who I split tickets withnfornlast few years and I also sell a lot of games. Sometimes make a little money, but nothing that would make it a "no brainer".
Next season is likely my last. I always felt the section I'm in(227) was a pretty good deal. And there have been times when I've made some good money on playoff tickets and the WC.
But now I realize that I have really just become a ticket agent for MSG. Basically they are off loading ticket sales to me. It's like a job. I'm too busy. My youngest will be 12 soon. We've seen plenty of games , including playoffs and I think this team either wins it all next year or goes into a 5 year slide.
So I'm in for next season, and then most likely done.
Really, I think the Rangers tickets are a potentially depreciating asset. This year was one of the worst ever regarding re-sale value.
I think with the competition we now have with tickets being online, between the NHL running theirs, Stubhub, forums, friends, etc (not to mention the Rangers almost ALWAYS releasing "last minute tickets") it makes the market much more competitive and brings down prices.
With the Rangers constantly raising them, we saw many people taking quite a hit this year and most were lucky to even break even.
This isn't the investment it used to be. Unless they make the Stanley Cup Finals, people won't be making enough to deal with the hassle, at least in my opinion.
And if I'm not moved to the upper bowl this year I'll either drop my subscription or buy a 10 game package. I'm in the last row of the lower bowl, in the corner (so not even center ice) and next years face was bumped up to $165/Seat.
At 24, that is just beyond my limits.
At age 24 I never even considered having ST. I was having too much fun spending my money on other things
I'm 61 and have been a STH for 35 years. Good news is I was there in 94, bad news is I probably won't be alive to see another one. I have renewed for next year and will probably renew indefinitely. Fortunately I'm in row 1 of the blue seats and thus am at a very attractive price point - $51 next season. I only had to sell 2 of my early season tix for below face value this season, and others went from face to 2x face.

May 11th vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins is now confirmed for 7:00pm, doors will
open at 6:00pm. The original start time for the contest was TBD.
Your tickets do not have a start time printed on them, as this game's start time was
just finalized. If you have passed along your tickets, please notify your guests of the
confirmed start time.
Due to added security measures, we encourage you to please arrive early. Additional
entrances on 8th ave. at 31st and 33rd Streets will be open for your convenience
when entering The Garden. Please note, elevator or wheelchair access is not available
at these entrances.
All fans in attendance will receive a Rally Towel presented by Celebrity Cruises! Arrive

As a STH the 7pm start tomorrow is great. Last year at 4pm was tough even though The King made my day with his shutout. I think the fans will really be into it tomorrow!
Might not know until later in the week. Anaheim-LA's game 7 is Friday, if it goes that far. Chicago-Minnesota is Thursday. TSN, CBC, and NBC are not going to want to commit to anything until it is all set.

I am going to assume those are game # 1's in both series. (East on Saturday and West un Sunday).
Last possible date for SCF game # 7 is June 19th, so working backwards I think both series will start over the weekend.
The Rangers 1st home game (as they will not have home advantage no matter who they'd play [knocks on wood]) would likely not be until Wednesday/Thursday. Tuesday would be the absolute earliest, but that would mean that they'd likely play a back to back.
If I had to guess, I'd say Game 3 at MSG would be on Wednesday.
Series will (obviously) not start until others are completed. So assuming one of the others goes to 7, Rangers will actually have a decent amount of time off since their series was so top heavy.

Those who are talking about poor resale value: for what it's worth, I have the $56 price point and the resale market was very strong this year. I made a profit on mostly all games I couldn't attend.

From personal experience and what ive read if youre in the lower bowl youre losing money. If youre on the west balcony or blue seats or the cheaper 200s you will never lose money and often make over face for big games. Thats why I love my row 2 blue seats, because I am still the cheapest ticket in building for big games that I have to sell, but I make money which helps me pay for my tickets. And the view is great, at least for me.
No offense, but 56$ tickets have to be the lowest in MSG or right there with it.
My face for the season was $143 and now that I've moved upstairs it's still $81.
56$ is a gem, but nearly impossible for people to get now.

A Wall Street guy I know paid top dollar for Mother's Day. First time EVER to Rangers playoff game. If people think we have a shot and the buzz continues to build, $500.00 per seat will not be out of line for a Game 6 ECF.

I think you are exactly right. With Wall St booming as the markets hit all time highs today there is a lot of money out there to be spent. $500 a ticket for game 6 of the ECF will probably be the going price especially among casual fans who remember the Rangers magic of 20 years ago. The Finals should be very high priced probably 3-4x face for the early games and who knows how much for the later games. But lets win tomorrow night first.

I have a pair in 214, piggyback seats and face is $53. I added them to my account this year and the profits helped finance my $76 seats in section 209. Hoping to move them next to each other next year. This also makes it less painful financially to go to most of the playoff games.
The pain will be in July and August when I am making $1200 payments and not getting the extra income from selling tickets.
