I think that would be the goal. If he goes even further, great.
I personally don't think second line is out of the question at all. I believe his ceiling is higher than some believe.
Sure a possibility but I "reserved" top 2 C spots for Chytil and Ziba (in any order).
We'll also have to see who sticks at Center if and when certain guys make it.
Re: Zibanejad, I think next season is critical for both he and Kreider.
If they're both healthy, and productive, and build off what they showed late last season, I think the Rangers go with them.
If injuries or other factors take place, I'm not entirely sold the Rangers look to lock Kreider up long term or don't look to move Z before his movement clause kicks in.
Your last point is why I think the Kreider decision is not getting dealt with until next year’s trade deadline. The push to move Kreider to the Oilers is silly, since I need more than the 10OA, and nothing else that they have interests me. Both Florida and Arizona make much better suitors for Kreider in terms of what the Rangers could get back.
Also, a trade of Kreider next gives Gorton another shot at adding a 1st, and then having multiple 1sts in three straight drafts.
Very good chance Georgiev makes it. After that I'd say Barron and Huska have the best shots, and Virta/Fontaine/Crawley/Gettinger all have low chances. Big year for those four in development.
Ronning has a lot of work to do so don't give up on him quite yet.
The rest especially Gropp and Bereglazov, I view as lost causes.
Update: Lettieri is somewhere on this list as well. Big, big summer for him. Does he become a guy that can improve his board work and score 12-15 goals at the NHL level, or is he just a decent AHL second liner?
You wouldn't want EDM's first in '18 and '19?Your last point is why I think the Kreider decision is not getting dealt with until next year’s trade deadline. I'd say his offensive ceiling is a level below Point's, which would be pretty consistent with their trajectories in the WHL.
I think Howden will likely play in the NHL next season, though I'd be a little surprised if he starts on the roster.
A great outcome would be for him to be top out just a tad above the 20 goal, 50 point mark. If he can get to that point, and bring his strong 200 foot game, clutch play, and be a guy who can be utilized in a number of scenarios, than that's a big get for the Rangers.
Everything I read about the kid reminds me of Stepan, aside from the fact that he can skate
Really curious about Hajek (I guess it's pronounced Hayek like Salma Hayek? LOL) I don't know much about him and even his game. What is his ceiling? How is his skating?
Also what's he been up to the last 6 weeks? I know his team got knocked out and he was injured, but was the injury ever revealed and what is he doing now? Practice and weight room for Memorial Cup?

Because of the timing of the poll Vinny and Nieves both were in the top 8.
Crawley's chance depends on the new coach. I could see him playing a bottom pairing role for a meat and potatoes coach like Tortorella, but he is't a fit for a fast transition system.
Agreed on Barron.
My major point is to demonstrate just how ****ty our prospect pool was at the time, and if we take out the acquisition of Andersson and DeAngelo it gets even worse. A rebuild was necessary, and our pool come the end of the draft is going to look more like one that will be capable of sustaining a playoff team in future years.
We were getting to the point where 95% of our replacement players were going to have to be UDFA signings or UFA budget signings. That's not a maintainable strategy.
We're going to go from that prospect pool to something like..
1) Chytil
2) Shestyorkhin
3) Andersson
4) #9
5) Libor Hajek
6) #26
7) Brett Howden
8) Ryan Lindgren
9) #31
10) Ygor Rykov
11) #40
12) Tony DeAngelo
13) #45
14) Neal Pionk
15) 3rd rounder 1
16) 3rd rounder 2
17) Vinny Lettieri
18) Ty Ronning
19) Morgan Barron
20) 4th rounder
21) Adam Huska
22) Sean Day
23) Gettinger
That's a huge step forward. Hard to really put it into words. That's going from #30 to #10.
Mikko Koskinen signed with the Oilers today.....which means Igor Shesterkin should be getting the lion's share of SKA's games next year.
BTW, there is a persistent rumor that Kravtsov will play for SKA next season.
He can join Shestyorkin and Rykov as Ranger prospects on SKA.
Kings signed for Rangers pick Brad Morrison. Why didn't the Rangers sign him?
He didn't develop literally at all from the point where he was drafted till the point where they had to sign him. Quite honestly I'm really surprised he was given a contract; before his out-of-nowhere, bonkers playoff performance, he hadn't even done anything remotely noteworthy in this, his over-age year.Kings signed for Rangers pick Brad Morrison. Why didn't the Rangers sign him?
Makes sense. Everyone has prospects like this, thanks for the heads up.Because he didn't develop after being drafted and his floor basically became his ceiling. This reminds me of Shane McColgan who we drafted, didn't sign and then got a try-out with the Kings. These things happen. Gilmour, drafted by the Flames, now plays for us.
I'l eat my shoe if Howden is a point per game player in his rookie year. That's even if he makes the team out of the gate. They're totally different types of players.100%, imho.

Yeah, I was just kidding when I said he’d 100% replicate Point50 points seem more like Howden's upside. If he did that as a rookie, I'd be astonished.
