The 2021 draft was kind of thin on talent anyway. Guys like Grubbe, Rempe, Edstrom are taken to see if one day they’ll fill out bottom line roles. Big bodies that can grind. No team in the NHL really has 4 scoring lines. I don’t want guys like Korczak, Vierling or Henriksson vying for checking, grinding roles. If they can’t make it into at least our top 9 they’re not going to make it at all. Guys like Othmann, Cuylle and Berard could start in bottom line roles because they have either the size, the grit or both.

Grubbe is a solid prospect considering his specialties. Wins 57 percent of his draws and can carry the puck with strength, plus he’s got the leadership/PK intangibles. Biggest reason why he’s not scoring a lot is because RD has a 21+ top line. He’ll likely be their 1C next season if Uchacz moves to wing.

The Rangers middle six is going to be revamped in the coming years due to salary cap issues, guys leaving, and guys taking the next step and getting bigger roles.

If a guy like Grubbe can become a hard nosed pain in the ass third line center who can win faceoffs and be glued to Goodrow, awesome.

Flint was supposed to be a bad team this season. One preview/projection had Flint last in the OHL's western conference. One report said Othmann would be traded to a better OHL team.

They were a terrible team. But guys like Piercey, Hayes, Panwar, Bertuzzi, Lombardi and Kressler stepped up in 2022 and now this team is buzzing.

Any chance Garand is ready to back up Igor next season?
I would think the Rangers will try to find a veteran to serve in that role. Someone cheap. A guy like Pavelec. Young goalies are so hard to predict. Wall was exciting coming out of college and was supposed to push Huska out of the picture. Instead he was awful as a pro and is likely departing. For the NHL team you don't want to gamble on a rookie, especially when you have a guy in Shesterkin who has for whatever reason been susceptible to missing time.

Way too risky to bank on an Igor/Garand duo next year. Garand will get plenty of games in Hartford and if he's ready for a cup of coffee or can work his way up like Igor did in his first pro season, cool.

Huska is a Group VI UFA....peace out.

The backup next year is going to be a bargain bin analytics signee. Either someone who is older and former starter (Halak, Greiss), or someone who hasn't been given a lot of time in the NHL but looked good in limited minutes (Charlie Lindgren).

The other option is another trade like Haggerty-Raanta for someone who is blocked. That might be like Gauthier-Hajek.

Yes. And you also want a young goalie like Garand to get games. Sure he can learn watching Igor, but the kid will need to PLAY to develop. You want him being THE man somewhere if at all possible.

Hmm. Not sure how i feel about that
I love it. I've always loved Edström. I think his game is better-suited to North America than Europe. He's obviously not going to be a big points guy but he plays a really physical brand of hockey (too physical for the SHL, honestly), has good hands around the net, can PK, etc. If nothing else, he'll be a good depth player for Hartford for a couple years, if he can't crack the Rangers.

I wish we had them ready right now because we need an influx of playoff type hockey performers that have some wheels and snarl .....we could use 5 for our current roster . Rangers a not bad regular season club but certainly not a playoff style club at this stage .
