Seems like our mid round Finnish picks are showing more promise than any of our mid round Swedish picks.

Would still bet on a AHL season for Paju first though

Is there a good comparable for Pajuniemi? It sounds like he's rounded out his game a bit, but wondering if he has more tools than just shooting.

Is he in the mold of Letteri, Pirri, etc. or does he bring a bit more to the table?

I haven't seen him play in over a calendar year, but Lettieri was always the comp that I liked.

Obviously the hope is that he'll be a rich man's version, but a grindy goal-scorer whose +skill may make him the triggerman on a PP unit isn't out of the question.

Thanks. Hopefully he can round out rest of his game. Seems like how everything else develops determines his ceiling

Agreed. If Lettieri had been stronger defensively, he probably would have stuck; Pajuniemi's chance at being an NHLer may hinge on the same.

He doesn't have to be Fast, but even if he can just get a coach's trust as much as PDG, that would go a long way.

That's gotta be the optimistic, meets-all-upside projection.

Earlier Lettieri was mentioned. I think he likely settles in somewhere in between--an NHL regular who can score goals but not a guy who scores 60 points per 82.

A guy with a great shot is hard to project cause it feels like all or nothing. If they can develop everything else their probably a top 6er getting PP time and scoring a bunch. If they don’t, it’s hard to stick in the bottom 6 and probably fizzle out.

With Pajuniemi, just as well as Olofsson, so much is also about getting the right opportunity. These guys are fairly specialized and a ton of their scoring comes from the same areas of the ice. If they got someone in front of them on the depth chart in that role — their scoring without any doubt drops considerably no matter the opposition. Like if you are a RHS sniper that scores a ton of those one-timers, you can definitely play in the ECHL and not score a lot if you never are put in that position.

I think it’s compareable to some PPQBs who can get like a PPG on some teams in some roles, then all of a sudden they change teams or are bumped down by someone and 75% of their production vanish over night. Willy Karlsson is another example in Vegas who’s scoring took off the moment he did get a goto to role offensively.

With this, I am of course taking into account that these guys are on the verge talent wise from my POV. Ie someone like Panarin gets it done no matter what. And I am not saying that Pajuniemi can become as good as Olofsson, but my point is just that even if he wasn’t that far off — their career paths could take completely different paths if even if they were. Border line talents that are highly specialized. All of a sudden they explode and gets 60-80 pts in the NHL, but many that actually are very talented players just don’t because they can’t beat out the guy ahead of them on the depth chart, ie others are better.

You forgot to also add in Wallstedt as someone who Howden will play ahead of if Quinn stays.

Made me think of a Swedish children song about a sorcerer that is dared to be able to turn himself into a glass of lemonade when it’s hot outside, and then drinks himself up.

Is there any chance that Quinn will make Howden the head coach? ;)

Wat.

If any of our prospects resembles Fox, it's Jones (albeit from the left side). Not to say he'll be as good, of course, but stylistically, physically, and in terms of their relative strengths/weaknesses it's a good (and IMO, obvious) comp. Meanwhile, Jones is nothing like Skjei.

As for Lundkvist, I don't have a natural comp that springs to mind, certainly not on the Rangers. Going back in time, maybe Zubov? Staying with the current era and moving away from the Rangers, maybe a RH Torey Krug?

looks like someone nailed their assessment
