Im starting to get real excited bout paju

From my POV his total skill set have always been undersold. I remember seeing him right after the draft during a U20 summer game, he was easily one of the more talented players on the ice among many highly regarded players. Then injuries wrecked that season somewhat. One big WJC just creates a completely different vibe around a kid like this, and I think it’s a coincidence that he never got that.

With that said, Plaju is more of a scorer, and even if his total skill set is underrated, there is no guarantees that he will make it. If anything — with our logjam on the wing, it’s not like I would be my mom on it.

At the WJSS? By all accounts he was a WJC lock after that tourney; then the injury made him the forgotten man.

doesn't apply to NYR but i thought its was interesting

as was Wisco rebounding to a very strong turnaround season, despite K'Andre and Turcotte turning pro

10 years ago I was completely infatuated with Sweden and wanted to pick up as many Swedes as possible. Now I just want to draft as many NCAA players as possible.

And Lindbom and Tarnstrom and Sjalin and Ragnarsson and Kjellberg haha. Aside from Lundkvist, we haven't really picked any value from Sweden these last five years.

Tarnstrom certainly too soon to call, one of youngest guys in recent draft, Covid bloated the rosters across Sweden's leagues (fewer exports, more imports), and he got caught in the crossfire, bouncing across 3 leagues to get icetime.
Some folks were quite pleased w Kjellberg's season w RPI, bad for him he lost the chance to follow-up this year.

The other guys might be less disappointing if they hadn't been 2nd/3rd rounders
Lindbom a fave punching bag here, because of draft slot,. His numbers haven't been great, but the skill he showed to get drafted that high may still become consistent.
Ragnarsson, surpassed in the LHD pipeline, likely becomes trade bait , for a similar prospect at a different position, perhaps in a multiplayer deal. NHL teams like bloodlines and draft pedigree.

Sjalin, I had a feeling he wasn't coming over when his brother, didn't sign w Wild in '18.
5th rounders are longshots often NYR seem to have done better than some lately, w Paju, Berard and Vierling

Yeah, I just came up with guys that were immediately a little disappointing on draft day (for me).

Tarnstrom could become a player, but we took him too high in most people's opinions; same for Lindbom.

Henriksson was a high risk-medium reward swing.

Sjalin and Ragnarsson just weren't guys that got people excited, and even with both maybe over-achieving expectations a little, are still not going to do much, if anything, to benefit the Rangers.

I'm not trying to create some narrative about prospects from Sweden. I just think we haven't done a great job at drafting from there lately; especially when you look at how well we've done drafting in general in that timespan.

I liked the Edstrom pick, and the Ollas pick is whatever. And Lundkvist is looking like a homerun for where we took him.

Andersson and Henriksson when it comes to @nyr2k2
Ha, yeah. Honestly though, I was one of Andersson's most ardent defenders before he leaves out. I blamed a lot of his struggles on the organization.

Henriksson, I wasn't a huge fan of the pick, but I didn't hate it. I mean if the guy was able to improve his skating to NHL average, he had (has!) a chance to become a solid contributor. I just mainly like to make fun of him for my own amusement. There are a few people here who have given up on him completely, which I think is foolish; I always point to Reunanen as a guy who looked dead in the water as a prospect after his D+2 season and then exploded in his D+3. I don't think that's totally unrealistic to hope for with Henriksson.

The one thing I just really didn't like with Henriksson was that they picked a guy who was small AND not a great skater. Either of those can be a big problem for a guy in making the NHL, but when you pair them, it's really hard to make it.

I'm still generally in favor of picking a lot of Swedes. If I'm down on anyone it's guys who play in Liiga (not necessarily Finns, just Liiga players).

Tärnström it's way too early to make any judgment. This wasn't the D+1 season you'd hope for but he's very young and it's a weird season.

Kjellberg had a surprisingly productive freshman season, but I don't see anything resembling an NHL player there. He looks like a guy that will bounce around the ECHL and fringes of an AHL roster when he graduates.

Ragnarsson was also a reach. That he is a third-pair guy in Allsvenskan in his D+3 does not bode well for his NHL chances.

Lindbom, nothing else to say, really. He was one of the top guys in his draft class, which was not a draft class where I'd go reaching for a goalie. He was a bit of a reach and was just the wrong pick. This is why I always caution against falling in love with kids over international tournaments. Literally all this guy has going for him is "he's young." The other, younger guy on his team who wasn't drafted is way less terrible. Knowing we could have had Drury is 10x worse.

Edström is still intriguing though he didn't take the step forward this year that I had hoped. Själin seems like he's inclined to stay on Sweden despite turning into a solid C+ prospect. Ollas is... interesting, I don't know. I don't like what I've read.

Leevi Aaltonen transferred to and signed with KooKoo in the beginning of March. He hasn't played a game. Weird.

On this goal, it was orginally credited to Jordan Gustafson (potato cam doesn't help) despite the announcers and WHL Twitter crediting it to Rempe. Sometime in the past couple days, it was changed to Rempe.

Busy WHL night tonight--almost feels like normal. Rempe (Seattle), Edmonton (Robertson), and Kamloops (Garand, first game of the season) all in action. Brandon (Schneider) played last night but he was out of the lineup again, second consecutive game, with a lower body. Sounds like it's not serious, that he's just sore, and he could be back any time, but you never know.

Unfortuntely the OHL, with Vierling, Cuylle, and Skinner, doesn't appear close. There have been intermittent rumors over the past few months about restarting in hub cities, but nothing has materialized, and we're basically in April. You're going to start a 24-game season in late-April or early-May? Seems unlikely. It's unfortunate for Vierling, who since he's not physically mature wasn't brought to play in the AHL or ECHL, though Cuylle has done fine in the AHL and is probably benefitting from this. Likewise, Skinner can clearly thrive in the ECHL and it would be unfortunate if he had to go back to the OHL, so a bit of a mixed bag for our guys.

There are also NCAA regional semis going on tonight, with Ciccolini (Michigan) playing UMD and Jones (UMass) playing LSSU. Michigan is 4 ET and UMass is 6:30 ET, both on ESPNU if you want to watch.
