Thanks for clarifying. Sorry I didn't make this clear in my original post.

Do the double overagers become free agents when they leave school or do they also have to wait until 8/15?

Farrance is, as you said, a graduating senior who can become UFA after 8/15. The other two were "double over-age" draftees IIRC so they can leave school and become free agents after this season (the season never happened for Abruzzese). No guarantee any of them are available.

Liiga isn't what it once was. There was a time not that long ago where I'd put it right up there against the SHL, but now it's clearly a rung below.

The part that excites me is looking around at someone like Henrik Borgstrom who is playing in the same league at 23 years old who many here, including myself, thought may be worthy of of acquiring if the cost was minimal as a depth forward reclamation project has 19 points in 27 games this season.

Pajuniemi has 31 points in 37 games @ 21 years old.

KHL has been going hard after talents there and SHL weakening overall quality of both leagues as a result.

For sure but to be fair, I've seen NHL teams play that level of defense too

That shot will play in any league though. I have some hope that he can be an Olofsson esque player for us.
Yeah, I'm not the "that won't fly in the NHL!" guy like a few people are on here. I mean honestly, that kind of nonexistent defense does happen in the NHL, just far less than in other leagues. When I look at a guy and how he's scoring his goals, I try to determine if a majority are NHL-caliber goals. Take Kravtsov--I was annoyed when he pulled that dangle and roofed the shot over goalie and half the board pissed themselves. It's a low-percentage play in any league, lowest in the NHL. But what pissed me off is that he was scoring a lot of other goals, on deflections, goals where he found space around the net, etc. Those goals translate. Those are the ones that should excite people (coming from someone who isn't even super high on him).

For Pajuniemi I'd say it's like 50/50 in terms of the goals he scores being solid NHL goals and goals that you see at lower levels but not consistently in the NHL. If you just look at his highlight real and ignore how it all translates it's like he's Pavel f***ing Bure. But I see more of a 15-15 guy, on maybe even a 20+ goal guy if he gets regular PP time. The shot is legitimate and can play at any level, it's just a matter of can he consistently find the time and space to use it (like the highlight he obviously found the space, but that's very low-percentage in the NHL). How does it all translate? I more confident about him now than I was last season, though.

The best teams have players that can score like that on the third line, for sure. 15+15 is a respectable statline for a 3rd line scorer.

Question is how he is with a 200 foot game at the NHL level. We've had plenty of 3rd line scorers over the years like Hagelin, Pouliot, Vesey, Grabner, and Fast, but a big influence on their value is what they bring to the roster outside of just some secondary scoring and a threat on the last 40 seconds of the power play.

I watch a ton of Wisconsin Badger games. I don't see Pelton-Bryce as being anything that maybe a fourth line center, and I don't think he gets there.

If there was anyone from that team that is undrafted I would take a flyer on, it is Roman Ahcan. He was their best forward last night and actually is most nights. Caufield scores a lot, but he is invisible for much of the games and does not play in his own end. Ahcan plays a 200 ft game and penalty kills too. He also has a bit of an edge to his game as well. This isn't to say he is a better prospect than Caufield as Cole's offense is at such a high level. It is more to state you can't watch them and not notice Ahcan all the time.

I know Liiga isn't amazing but still how could you not be excited about this kid and shoot first mentality?
Would be leading the league in goals had he not missed 10 or so games.
Excited to see his shooting ability and Schneider's pushing over opponents like they are nothing come to broadway in a year or two.

agreed. if we echo the Gordie Clark mantra to excel where you are,
and we bury guys who don't (Lindbom, Henriksson, Aaltonen,..)
then yeah gotta be thrilled to see guys who are distinguishing themselves
(Paju, Krav, Nils, Schneid, Jones, Robertson, Cuylle, Berard,...) come take their career shot

Yep and give them the time they need. Some of these kids will come over here and surprise.

That’s a good point, the answer always involves the word process

Only 6 PIM for Jones through 24 games - compared to 24 PIM in 32 games last year. He's also scored 5 more goals than he did last season (3), in 8 less games...

Assuming he stays healthy, how many games is he expected to play this year? 36-39? (Not sure if NCAA did anything to shorten their season)

They are in the middle of the playoffs/tournament. So he may only have 1 more game, or a couple at most. So he will end the season with around 25-27 games.

Jones has up to 5 possible more games, i think
The Hockey East title game, then at least 1, up to 4, in NCAA bracket

Just stat surfing, but it looks like Robertson is having a really good start to his season. 1 goal and 5 assists in 6 games, +9 with 27 shots on goal. The only negative is the 8 pims (4 minors, nothing coincidental).

The Oil Kings are 6-0-0-0 to start the season and it looks like Robertson is playing a big part in that.

We are absolutely loaded with young talent on the left side of the D:

K'Andre
Lindgren
Robertson
Zac Jones
Reunanen
Hajek

And on the right side:

Trouba
Fox
Lundkvist
Schneider
Skinner

Trouba is the old man at 27. The rest are all 23 or younger, and we are already seeing a marked defensive improvement from the team. The forwards are backchecking hard and they are playing with good structure.

We may not make the playoffs this year, but I'm very happy with the progress the team has made. As these kids continue to mature, we will only get better.

Certain stats from the juniors I start to discount as a prospect gets older but I really like 27 shots in 6 games one.
