Reunanen had his ups and downs. I remember when he went down to Mestis---that league being equated with a beer league. For some guys---they won't make it but there are some that just need more time. Reunanen is looking like a very good prospect now. Henriksson could use an extra gear though. If he can pick up another step I think that would help him a lot.

Well considering Tarmo is now 23 he's got approximately one more camp to make the big club or be lost forever.

The last time he was sent down was his D+2 season and that was due to a logjam, not because he wasn't good enough.

He played sparingly for two Liiga teams, a Mestis team, and also played in Jr. A. It was a difficult year for him. I don't remember anyone here sharing any optimism about him after that season. I think that was the point. He had a really tough D+2 season where people were ready to write him off and then he took off in his D+3. That's the hope for someone like Henriksson.

Speaking of guys we gave up on,, Lakatos is having a gangbuster season in the Czech league.
Kovacs has made a good career for himself, too. If he stayed here he'd probably be in jail, LOL. Thomas Spelling is basically a superstar in the Danish league.

Other guys like Stromwall and Meskanen have done real well, too, but they were good overseas before we signed them.

Yeah, Rykov, Reunanen and Pajuniemi all took major leaps in their D+3 so the hope for Henriksson and also Aaltonen is still there even though I wouldn't put money on it happening.

Regarding Reunanen, I wasn't sure if he was referring to earlier this season with him playing in Mestis, which was his decision due to the availability of a short-term loan.

Is Mestis Finnish for yeast infection?

if you're comment is about my post---I was just remembering things said about Reunanen a few years ago after he was drafted and his Liiga team sent him to Mestis. Mestis then was panned at least by a few as being a beer league and Reunanen a wasted draft pick who would never make it.

Yes, back then things didn't look too good for him. He struggled with injuries of course, but you don't want your prospects in Mestis at age 19-20. Luckily Reunanen turned it around not unlike Pajuniemi.

He played in Mestis earlier this year as well, but as I said, that was for other reasons (mostly him wanting to sign a short-term deal and Liiga teams only offering him season-long deals). I wasn't sure if you were referring to his earlier years of this season reg the Mestis quote. But it's all cleared up now :)

I knew what was going on this year---he was just biding his time to go to the Rangers camp and see how he fit in over here and the Mestis games were basically just to get on the ice and get some competition without committing to a Liiga team. Nothing wrong with that at all.

He's been very good in Hartford so far and maybe he'll get in a few NHL games before the season is over.

This is why instant access to all this data has a lame side.
Karl H having a sucky season is in no way a definitve metric of his long-term value, or of his career arc. Development is a process.
If such early, snaphot judgements were so accurate, Daniel Goneau would have been All-Star and Petr Prucha a Hall-of-Famer.

yes @RGY, his near-term trade value may be diminished, so yeah, NYR, be smart, don't sell low...
It is... and he was the man in juniors, so he doesn't suck... as of now, he hasn't perceptibly seized upon or undertaken that process... might be a late bloomer or might be too small/not fast enough for pro hockey... but we sorta wrote off Reunanen and Pajuniemi in similar fashion... who knows? Odds against him... but aren't they always.

Yeah and by the same token, you have someone like Patrik Virta, who had a strong D+1 with 40 points in a full Liiga season, and that's basically where he has topped out since then. On a points per game basis he actually has never gotten back to that. Some guys are literally done progressing in their late teens. Others follow a more linear progression. Tough to know for sure when we're looking at guys that young.

I think you were the guy who had everyone up on him for that small time, no fault of your own.
Yup, I was quite high on him. That D+2 season was not particularly impressive and the team didn't give him a contract. And he has been the same player for the past couple years. He was one of those guys that stagnates. Shane McColgan was a classic example.

Virta had such a weird season that year. Starting off well with Slovan in the KHL, and then halfway through the season moving to the SHL. There were talks about him going to NA to play either in Hartford, which is why he didn't extend his contract in Sweden but that offer never came.

There was 100% a goalie in net for this one.

He has 17 SOG through 3 games wtf
Yeah my bad, it was definitely not an ENG. I was basically asleep when I posted that last night, obviously dialed to comprehend what I was reading.

Robertson looking to have a monster year, even in this weird and short season.

Robertson just a few days from turning 20. You go back and read the scouting reports and watch the available game footage of his play and it really feels like the guy only wasn't a first round pick because his ceiling isn't a star defenseman.

If he and Schneider become a pairing in Hartford next season, that's a combination of players I think could end up clicking pretty well with chemistry.
