Going "outside the lines" to beat up on a fringey skill player who doesn't fight, I'm not really sure what that accomplishes, or what point is made.

I like being willing to throw down and play with an edge. I don't like the singular act of punching a guy who is on his knees, particularly when that player isn't a tough guy.

Whatever, though. To each his own I suppose.

I get it and it appears to be a little suspect but it was heat of the moment and it's not like the guy wasn't getting back up. But yeah, that shot just happened to land a little too flush and knock him right back down.

Also, how many games has Skinner played in this league? Do you really think he should know the fighting history of every player he's going to face at this point? I wouldn't quite put this in the same frame as Carcillo versus Gabby. I'll say Skinner was super aggressive and not dirty until we see this occur again.

I'll just say that I would prefer our player be the aggressor, it's something the team has lacked for years. I don't love it that he swung when the guy was down but we also saw about 10 seconds of what happened prior. For all we know, this guy had hurt a teammate of his last week.

He's played 17 games. I don't expect him to know everyone's history, but I'm sure by the conclusion of the pregame meeting he at least had a cursory understanding of who's who on the other team--and that Vlad Mikhalchuk is no tough guy. Or, he likely would have determined as much from the 55 minutes that preceded the fight.

Anyway, I get it, everyone else loves it or is cool with it, and I'm on an island. That's fine. I stand by my opinion of the play.

Hunter Skinner involved in a brawl, guess he is living up to his name. He's been doing fairly well in the ECHL as well. Step up from juniors, so I'll take it

With the ELC contract window opening for next season, I'm pretty sure he'll get one. His rights expire on 6/1, so they have 3 months to hammer out the deal.

Yeah he has to be considered a lock at this point. His D+1 campaign was solid if unspectacular, and his D+2 season has been surprisingly productive playing in the ECHL. That he made the WJC roster, even through COVID-related attrition, is a nice feather in his cap. I think he has pretty thoroughly outperformed his draft spot to this point, and should get an ELC with an eye on opening in Hartford next year.

Sometimes there's shit that happened earlier in the game and/or sometimes people say shit they shouldn't. Also we should keep in mind that Skinner is without doubt one of the youngest guys in that league. I'd rather have him asserting himself than not.

Yes, Liiga is part of the transfer agreement, so the Rangers can still sign him between July 1st and August 15th each year. I'm just happy Aaltonen gets a chance with a different team because once Bracco arrived he was out of the line up

Hadn't realized this would take effect immediately. Glad he gets a change of scenery, to a team who seems glad to have him

no March 1st is the date that you can sign guys to contracts that begin next season. he isn't available to come over yet but we could get him signed to the ELC deal that would start next season

yeah, I left out Nils ( and possibly Paju) as I wasnt certain whether signed Euro pros could sign a future pro contract, while currently under their active Euro pro deals. I'd welcome those bits of business getting done as well

Only if he is released or given permission from his team.

Nah, I agree with you. It's the kind of shit that I would want Wilson or Ritchie beheaded for, and I don't want it on my team.

That said, I would much, much rather have a guy with that kind of aggressiveness who has to be reigned in a bit, than a guy with the same kind of game, but who plays more meekly.

edit - and that is specifically based on him punching an inexperienced guy who is on his knees like that. If he went hog wild on a guy like Ritchie when he cheap shotted a goalie after the whistle, or sat his fat ass down on Georgiev; different story.

Henriksson was scoreless. Shocker. In his last six games, he has no points, is -4, with just 2 SOG. For the season, he's 0-6-6 in 38, -5 with 36 SOG.

The longer the contract the more money. 6 years for $5 might be okay. I wouldn't want to go more than that. He's proven he's a good NHL goalie. A couple things we haven't seen is how many games he can play in any given year (and we're not going to find out this year with the shortened season) and whether or not he can carry a team to the playoffs. So far though he's won 17 NHL games and lost 9. That's really good but it's not like there is a a big track record to go on.
Goalies can be a dime a dozen during the regular season. What separates them is how they do in the playoffs. If Igor proves that he is a clutch player in the biggest games, he will earn a rich contract. Otherwise, I don't see spending big money on a goalie as sound cap management.

Such a disaster. Progress from him could have just meant another possible trade chip.

At this point, I have completely given up on him and Lindbom

They are both 20. Lol

This is why instant access to all this data has a lame side.
Karl H having a sucky season is in no way a definitve metric of his long-term value, or of his career arc. Development is a process.
If such early, snaphot judgements were so accurate, Daniel Goneau would have been All-Star and Petr Prucha a Hall-of-Famer.

yes @RGY, his near-term trade value may be diminished, so yeah, NYR, be smart, don't sell low...

I think there is a big difference of struggling at the AHL level and playing in Sweden at a level that does not get you drafted.

Just for the record, with both Henriksson and Lindbum, I am generally among the first to point out their age and that it's too early to give up on them completely. I just like to make fun of them for my own amusement.
