I feel like the track record in goalies picked in the top fifteen over the last twenty years is pretty uninspiring.

Give me more Garand, wall, husk, shesty picks in the mid to late round
They may have hit a homerun with Shesterkin, but the rest is not a guarantee. And Let's remember the years between Richter and Henke (Blackburn's injury not withstanding).

Dunham was inconsistent but he had some good stretches.

Fair viewpoint. The kid appears special though. People thought that Askarov is good. He has nothing on Wallstedt.

I've seen a lot of Wallstedt over the last few years while keeping an eye on Lundkvist and Gunler. He has been amazing. I just don't think a goalie is worth a 1st, ever.

He was not someone that was a serious goalie for a playoff contender.

Fair. But despite his slow start this season, Georgiev's numbers over the past 3 seasons have been pretty near league average for save percentage on a terrible defensive team.

He may not be a 1A but if Shesty somehow busts (I'd say unlikely unless he has some sort of Roman Cechmanek flaw that blows up his career later) we still have a middling 1B to hold the fort.

I get it. I think that my overarching point is that, at least to me, the not drafting a goalie in the first round is a guideline but not a law. There are exceptions to the guidelines.

I think it's really time we start focusing on getting a center in the first round. we have talent at literally every other position.

thats why games like monday dont upset me much, this year (or last,)
NYR played well but the points got away anyway

to-date, only 5 teams at, or worse, than -3 games under NHL .500,
and Nash(-3) and Vanc(-4) may turn it around

7 of next 8 vs Bruins, Flyers, Caps to finish Feb, then 9 of 10 from Mar 11-30
'opportunity' to settle into solid bottom ~7 or 'worse' spot

starting next season though, winning will be everything
kids here now will be better, more guys coming, Cap Hits expire, Seattle draft passes, ... and oh, yeah ADA issue resolved

A goal and a beautiful between the legs assist for a gimme goal on PP fur Paju!

Top 3 in goals since the start of the 2019-20 season:

1. Pajuniemi. 37 goals in 74 games
2. Eemeli Suomi. 33 goals in 91 games
3. Kai Kantola. 33 goals in 92 games

Pajuniemi missed 17 total games in this span due to injuries and still leads everyone in the league in goals

Paju really looks to have taken another step.

I gotta admit, I was pretty worried that he was going to plateau at the Liiga level and we would have to concede that his offense just wouldn't translate. He's definitely quashed that concern; he's still got a realistic chance at being a genuine 3rd line scoring threat.

Every prospect outside of 1st round is more likely to plateau before reaching NHL level. 75% to 80% against even as soon as second round.

For sure.

My concerns with Pajuniemi were tied to the fact that he was still being productive, and it felt a little like fool's gold. Like we were going to get our hopes up and be let down.

Which still might happen obviously, but it hasn't happened as quickly as I feared.

Keep all our remaining prospects away from the big club for as long as possible. I don’t care let VK come over when he’s 22-23 years old

Who's the better protect between him and Baron?

I hate to say never. There are some rare options. Vasilevsky, Samsonov, Price, Gibson just outside the first, and I think Knight will be legit but no one knows what the hell Florida is doing. Goalie value if flipped is one concern. Also, it’s easier to hit a double with a position player. If you think your getting Eichel but you end up with a Mikko Koivu then you’re prob still happy with a valuable asset. If you think you’re getting Hank and you get Salo, much less so. So basically, you better be really right on. I think the risk of a goalie pick is higher.
