Likely the team's leading scorer. If I'm not mistaken, most European leagues do something similar with the helmet/jersey for each team's top scorer.

Correct. In the CHL the top scorer has a different jersey for instance. In Liiga the top scorer has a golden helmet and the top scorer u21 (I think) has a Red Bull helmet
"4th liner at best" would imply that on something other than his best day, he's not an NHL player? Really? I mean he's a 3rd-4th line player who is defensively responsible, a good soldier, plays hard every night, kills penalties, takes the tough assignments, and will give you 10 or so goals and 10-20 assists over a full season. Why the hate? We've never been very good at producing legitimate, worthwhile bottom-six players, and Fast is one of the few we've developed successfully. Around $2.5M or so is probably what he's worth, when you look around the league.

much of what Fast does well is not attention-getting,
while what often gets attention is when he doesn't finish opportunities.
so i get why he is often under-appreciated.
but i always recall his remarkable season-perpetuating performance during the 2015 playoffs,
i cant find tape of the play he made in neutral zone and then along wall leading an OT goal, but he was part of all 3 OT goals during that run

he is the type of forward that teams trying to make the playoffs would overpay or a team that needs leadership. i would not offer more than 2.5 per year. he also gets hurt lately every year. slightly injury prone

A team without a captain or any depth on the bottom 2 lines could use a guy like him too. Especially if he's homegrown when they struggle to develop those types.
All you want from Pajuniemi is that he keeps developing. Look at Olofsson. He has taken big steps every year since he was 18. He was 24 when he made it. Now a PPG. Pajuniemi is only 20. William Karlsson is another.
It’s of course not a given that a kid will keep taking big steps, but as long as they do that the sky is the limit.
I love Reunanen. Wouldn’t be shocked if he became our No 1 LD one day. Nor if he never made it. But his skating and agility is world class. His poise.

Fast is the exact type of player someone that knows f*** all about hockey hates. Somehow he sucks yet wins the players player award year after year. Over rated to the max....... f*** off.
So you would overpay to keep him say 4 mil per season which I feel he can get since he only makes 1.8 now,.for what he brings, that is too much money.

Fast has gotten way too much grief over the years on these boards. Not everyone is going to be a goal scoring point producer. You need guys that can do the grunt work and give consistent good effort night after night.
Exactly. And at the same time we complain that our bottom six sucks, but it's too expensive to sign guys to play there. Well, Fast is the homegrown version of what everyone wants. I would guess that if he fought, he would be universally revered.

Lol Fast is one of the best 4th liners in NHL. He's that 3rd/4th liner type.

My favorite thing about Fast is that he always takes the tough route to get between an opposing player and the puck. Too few Rangers do that.

There are rumors that he actually was 12 y/o when we drafted him, which would classify him as a prospect.
The only thing that could be held against Fast is changing his surname from Fasth to Fast. If anything, after all the Anglosaxon cultural dominance we continental Europeans suffered from, it should be the other way around
