His first goal was a one-timer off a cross-ice feed, he was parked in the slot on the edge of the circle. Good shot, nothing too crazy though.

Second one, he was parked at the top of the left circle and just bombed a one-timer off a pass from the point to beat the goalie over the glove. I mean it was a NASTY shot.

That second one is Panarin-esque on the shot.

Typically, I'm not a fan of smaller players or overagers, but he's really taken a step this year – and boy could this team use an effective, high-volume shooter on the wing like him...

While Pajuniemi was an overager when drafted, he is younger than Chytil. He was among the oungest eligible in 2017 when he was undrafted. From a 5th round pick you just hope they show something and build on that. Same with Hagelin and Fast in the past.

This season he has taken a huge step not unlike Rykov and Reunanen last year

I noticed that the Liiga site seems to track shots, not shots on goal. It lists Pajuniemi as having 135 shots through 28 games, which is great. 11 shots today. He also had 9 his last game and 7 before that. One game earlier this year, he had 14 shots.

But then, when you actually look at it, here's what he had today: 2 shots that missed the net, 3 shots blocked, 3 shots saved, 3 goals. So really, 6 SOG, 11 shots attempted. Make sure to take the shot numbers for Pajuniemi and Reunanen (who had 2 "shots" today, both missed the net) with a grain of salt and remember they're attempts, not on goal.

Great point, Steven. I had forgotten that.

Is that a give-and-go with 46? Looks like he’s just following through on a pass back as that .gif begins.

If so, even sweeter.
He picked up a pass streaking toward center ice, came in down the left flank one-on-one, and then the other guy was a trailer. He dropped it back to him, he other guy held it for a second, then passed back to Pajuniemi who kind of shafted it in.

If you go to the link above and click the little "play" icon you can watch extended looks at his goals.

I dug into Pajuniemis numbers to see what's up, I actually thought it would be more PP driven then it is... I am kinda stunned by the results honestly.

Appreciate the breakdown. Keep in mind what I mentioned a couple posts up--the "shots" that Liiga posts are shot attempts, not SOG. They show him with 11 SOG today even though he only put 6 on frame. Doesn't change anything other than his SH%, really, but worth noting.

Yeah I know, already tweeted out the error

obviously the offense is super exciting...and those stats look good. but has anyone been able to watch Pajuniemi that can speak on how he has looked in his overall game? is he used in all situations?

Wow, awsome news!

Pajuniemi reminds me a bit of Goalofsson. Imagine if he could have that type of impact instantly in NY. :) Or Olofsson played a year in the AHL, but...
