Wow, awsome news!

Pajuniemi reminds me a bit of Goalofsson. Imagine if he could have that type of impact instantly in NY. :) Or Olofsson played a year in the AHL, but...

i'll gladly sign for that out of a 6th round pick...

obviously the offense is super exciting...and those stats look good. but has anyone been able to watch Pajuniemi that can speak on how he has looked in his overall game? is he used in all situations?
Well, he's overall game is not NHL ready, let's put it that way. It's not that he's horrible defensively, though. He used to kill penalties quite often I think, but much less now that he's emerged as the top offensive guy. That's my gut feeling anyway, no stats to back that up.

Regarding a potential trade with Calgary, does anybody have any positive feelings about Eetu Tuulola out of Finland or Ilya Nikolaev from Yaroslavl Russia?

10th in scoring in Liiga as a 20 year old is pretty damned good. Big year for Pajuniemi.

While it is definitely a good sign, I still believe his ceiling is that of a 3rd line winger. This emergence reminds me of Reunanen last year but doing it at age 20 is very different from Kakko and Barkov doing it at age 17. It took him a while to put things together and this is his D+3 season. A Jesper Fast-type development curve is what I am hoping for here

And that’s a coup for where he was drafted.

Sometimes it's hard to tell--I would put him at about where Morgan Barron is right now. Pajuniemi is playing in a higher level league right now though---there are some differences that might lean to Barron--better size---familiarity with smaller rinks. European leagues work players harder on skills and game fundamentals than North American leagues tend to. The extra ice plays into that and for some players that's more helpful to their development than to others. Scoring goals in the NHL or even the AHL is not easy. Every team has good goaltending and to score most players are going to have to fight their way to at least 25' of the net. There is less time and space to do things and bigger and more physical players to deal with and then there's the grind of 80 game seasons and the need to not just to be an offensive player but a 200' player. Every year at the draft there will be someone like a Bellows or a Tippett or a Wahlstrom who've been eating up their leagues as premier goal scorers--Michael Dal Colle was another--who people think are going to be the next Mike Bossy--goal scorer extraordinaire and those seem to me to be the guys that are most likely to crash and burn and especially if their skating is more towards average. There's a tendency with players like that not to be 200' players. All offense doesn't work. Pajuniemi's worked his way up from lower lines. That can be a good thing. He will have been learning. To go back to Barron for a moment---he's also working with the distraction of keeping his grades up.

I kind of agree with your assessment---except for the center part. I think his upside if he can hit is 3rd line wing. Center is a tough position to play--more defensive responsibility--almost have to be a really good skater--size and strength helps--face-offs. It's easier to break in as a winger.

Sorry, of course I mean winger

Speaking of Fast comparisons, I remember when Pierre McGwire compared Lias Andersson to Fast, when we chose Lias during the draft and this board had a total meltdown...wishing Lias becomes Fast at this point...

Pierre McGuire is clueless. He just compares players based on nationality and team. Fast and Lias both played for HV71 when drafted by the Rangers
