Rangers Let Go of Head Athletic Trainer Jim Ramsay

We led the league in missed games due to injury, there better be a reason behind this because as a fan it feels like this crosses the line

what line? ITS THE f***ING TRAINER!!!!!!!
We know that the players had a lot to say in the exit interviews. They were asking for help and expressing a lack of team staff listening to them. There may be something more to this (Not nefarious necessarily like drugs) and it should looked into. It might be that we seemed healthy, but that players aren't missing games cause their needs aren't being met. Which again, is something the players spoke up about. So, it's not just the trainer. It is an important member of team staff that may either be behind the times or neglecting their duties. More will hopefully be learned over time.

Honestly, this might be the first time since I have followed this team that the GM is taking these things seriously.

He should have had a lifetime contract. Another joke move by a joke organization.

This is all a part of Benoit allaires plan to become the chairman of MSG by the end of the decade. Rammer has seen too much and knew too much.

If they can find a new guy who is new age and comprehensive then this franchise updating is never a bad thing.

It's not Ramsay's decision at all whether a guy plays though injury. He gives a medical assessment and the head coach decides.

My feeling is that the Rangers have moved into a more modern view of medicine and Ramsay's time had run its course.

This dude is universally beloved by the players. Every podcast/ceremony in which he's mentioned by any player, he's always mentioned glowingly. Tough shoes to fill.

The Rangers have only had two athletic trainers in 38 years. Dave Smith and Jim Ramsey. Smith left after spending one year Mike Keenan. Smith did not wait to see if Keenan was staying for his second season with the Rangers. He re-joined Roger Neilson in Florida. Colin Campbell hired Ramsey. Maybe Ramsey was leaking stories to Elliotte Friedman. Someone told Elliotte about the argument after game 4. Hockey operations issue.

Is he not that guy’s boss? Who sets the agenda and who implements it?

I don’t know either way. Just speculating like the rest of us are.

Not him.

His job isn't to get guys in shape, it's to keep them intact during the season.

My understanding was that it was loud enough that the media was able to hear it.

This is the exact kind of this I want to over analyze over a long off season. Thank you Chris!

Why does everyone assume Ramsay has an antiquated skill set? They need continual training to keep their licentificates and whatnot. There is online training, weekend courses, off hours stuff to be doing. I'm sure this guy was keeping up with the latest through trade magazines, as well, like Athletic Training Today and its competitor, The Modern Trainer. Unless the magazines mysteriously stopped showing up because Drury cut off the subscriptions. Needless to say, he wasn't doing his skills and knowledge upkeep by playing Operation.
