Rangers Let Go of Head Athletic Trainer Jim Ramsay

Thats a coach problem. The coach can choose to sit them whenever he wants. But he said Trouba wouldn’t let me or something to that effect. But we already know Gallant is a shitty coach with no clue or foresight.
Yeah he had no control over this team and it shows.

People really overestimate the amount of impact that he has.

Most skills development happens in the off season and I don't think players are having this guy travel around to their home towns to work with them on shit. These guys don't have enough time to really work on shit in season as most of their energy is going to be spent in game in an actual practice setting. You're not going to get a whole lot out of 15 minutes at the end of a practice session on occasion.

I have no issue if they replace him, but his impact is being greatly exaggerated.
A coach/trainer teaches and instills good habits and disciplines to improve and sharpen certain skills. I just don't see it from anyone.

It's not just about the 5-15minutes you get in a practice with 1 on 1 time. It's a dedication. It doesn't happen over night. He's accomplished nothing. Skills typically degenerate here. He's had a decade with nothing to show for it.

Yes, you can't force players to do it on their own but you could show the way. I just do not believe we have. If it was up to me, there would be 'mandatory' camps put together by the org, especially for ELCs....

The only thing I can say is -- why more drama? Look I get that changes happen and I get that Drury likes to be tight-lipped about what he shares. So things like this can kind of pop out of nowhere.

But when things like this are released, why does it seem to come out with the maximum shock value possible. It FEELS like drama. It feels like there's so much more to this story. And now we wait to hear the juicy details. Did some players complain about playing hurt during exit meetings? Does management feel like Rammer's not doing enough to help the prospects along with training plans? Does management want to blame someone for greenlighting the kane trade from a medical perspective? I mean, I don't believe that's Rammers call -- but who knows.

Firing your head trainer after 30 years out of nowhere -- 2 years removed from firing a team president who was the other longstanding face of the franchise -- it gives the overall impression of a pretty dysfunctional organization. One that, if I were a head coach or a top prospect who wants to win, I don't know if I'd be dying to sign up.

The way the deadline was handled. The weird drama we heard between coach and management during the playoffs (and regular season). Put that on top of everything that's happened when Gorts and JD were here with the TDA stuff and Panarin doesn't want to play with Kakko stuff. The VK stuff. The Lias stuff. The Tom Wilson incident. The players hate quinn stuff. The bizarre letter to player safety. The sudden firings. Then, we got the first year of Gallant which kinda felt like okay maybe things are on the right track. And then this year it just felt like the wheels were coming off again.

And while it is true that this type of drama can be fun for fans as it's certainly something to talk about. It's sideshow stuff. And stuff that makes us look like just another disorganized NY sports franchise -- from the early Brooklyn Dodgers, to the Knicks, to the Mets (previous owner), to decades of the Nets (and most recently), to the Jets. It's sooo annoying. It's so disappointing.

I have no idea what happened w rammer, but I hope there isn't some ugly story sitting under this about something he did around here w his access. This seems like there is something under the surface here that we don't know about.

Sorry to break this to you, but the players union will be sending you a cease and desist so fast, it would impress Jesper.

Mostly agree with this. However, it seems a lot of fans (and I'm saying this broadly) are confusing Rammer's role. He's the head athletic trainer - there is a separate Strength & Conditioning coach who specifically addresses off-ice workouts and training regimens with the players. If there are organizational issues with that, none of it should have fallen on Rammer's shoulders.

Don't really have an issue with with firing a guy who has been here since the stone age. I kinda trust Drury's judgement here considering he was treated by the guy as a player and has been in the organization basically since he retired.

Apparently Ramsay was relieved of the "Director of Sports Medicine & Conditioning" roles before this past season started. Could be as simple as him just phasing out like they did with Gordie Clark.

good note. Question: Is it a seperate dept or does S&C fall under Jim's dept? if it doesn't, then that's a relief to hear in a way.

One last thing I want to say: Jim Ramsay has been behind the Rangers bench for nearly 30 years. Through tons of coaches and regimes. He's been one of the biggest constants after say, the jersey. It's sad to see him go. Like an old friend who you never spoke with.

Wonder if this has to do with Drury essentially being forced into retirement with a knee condition and Ramsay not being able to do anything to get him in the lineup

This is interesting because I always found it odd that Drury came back to the organization so fast after his playing career did not end on good terms. Between the injury and refusing to retire, forcing the Rangers to buy him out.

It's a new world.

I want a trainer that's bleeding cutting edge.

That controls athletes diets and training routines. Backed by scientific papers and studies..

Who pushes the gray areas and fills them up with 'legal' peptides and stem cells therapy or what ever is needed.

If Kravtsov was eating 'horse meat' prescribed by the training staff, he would have been a unit coming into last season.

Yeah, while we have had a good run re: injuries, can we hope that this is the front office realizing that something with how we are training might be affecting our skills development?

Heard Jed Ortmeyer is getting promoted and will serve as Player Development lead and Trainer.

They said, "no one trained or works harder than Jed."

the country club is looking to get disrupted.

noooooooooooooooooooooo

I expect nothing less from a James Dolan run team. The Knicks finally seem to have a direction after 20 years of dysfunction.

The 30 for 30 of the 2019-2021 New York Rangers starting with Quinn's hire and culminating with Gorton and JD's firing is going to be lit.

I went on LinkedIn to see if the open position was being made known. I found this.

No idea why you guys are upset about this. For starters, we dont know any details about what goes on in the room. But just surface level - hes been there nearly three decades, its time for someone younger with a fresh perspective.

Look, I think y'all are confusing or blending together athletic trainer and player development. The guy you want to direct pitchforks at is Jim Sullivan, actually, who has bottom-line accountability for this circus.
