Rangers Let Go of Head Athletic Trainer Jim Ramsay

This is very odd. He is considered on of the best in the game, but science (especially in the realm of athletic nutrition, training and care) have advanced exponentially since the 90s. What was once career ending is now 4-6 months. Diet, training, care, recovery, etc. are all better understood. I hope this is indicative of the right types of change, cause I want everything and everyone changed.

Get rid of Mark Ciaccio too. He is a joke around the league and problem #1 with development. And again, WE HAVE ALL THE MONEY! HIRE MORE COACHES!

Also, no team is as healthy as the Rangers have been over the years. I mean too healthy. Maybe guys were playing hurt/getting cleared too early? Perhaps a bit of downplaying injuries by a staff of older, "it's no big deal", types.

Ciaccio was with the Arizona Coyotes for the previous decade, where the Yotes also had similar problems developing high end picks. Blake Wheeler (2004, 5th overall) didn’t play a single game with Arizona. Peter Mueller (2006, 8OA) didn’t hit his ceiling. Kyle Turris (2007, 3OA) needed to escape to Ottawa to pan out. Mikkel Boedker (2008, 8OA) never even hit 20 goals. Only Oliver Ekman-Larsson, a defenseman, panned out as a top-ten pick in Arizona.

oh my. Didn't realize it went that deep.

We're the New York Rangers. We should have a Skating Coach, a Shooting Coach and a Stickhandling/Passing Coach. We should have coaches coming out of our ears to step in and help whoever needs help.

The skills coach scapegoat is one of my least favorite memes here.

The rushing guys back from injury IS a thing here but generally, the rangers have been one of the healthiest teams in the league since the advent of time. It’s a weird move.

It does. There is a line in the article that I think implies its even deeper than that too. This guy is a liability.

This is not that surprising. And I like the move. It means Drury thinks injuries/handling of players did cost us in the playoffs.

For 6 years now, rangers have been top 6 or better in Cap Hit of Injured Players. Virtually no one sits on the sideline. It's such a ridiculous standard that no one can miss a game and Drury probably doesn't like that players are limping into the playoffs as a result.

The other part of it is this guy is probably forcing Toradol into every player which is not a recipe for success. I suspect Drury thinks that is at least part of the reason for Laf and Kakko's lackluster performance.

Skills coaches are very important. Just cause a player plays in a pro league doesn't mean their mechanics don't need work and a bad coach, teaching poor mechanics and generally useless skills with dated training methods absolutely has an impact. NHLers aren't 26-38 anymore. They are 18-32.

And that is kinda what I am saying with the trainer change. I think this staff may have been rushing/downplaying injuries from players. I think Drury is taking some of the things said to him in the exit interviews pretty seriously.

Makes me wonder if it's the higher ups that weren't happy that so many players were playing through injuries. I'll eat my hair if Fox wasn't one of them.

We know of Trouba and Kane, but who else?

Mika looked hurt to me. He seemed off and slow in the playoffs unless Shrek told him to be as shutdown center in the playoffs which would not shock me with the stupidity of this coaching staff

Will certainly be interesting to get the details but the way it’s worded sounds more like he was terminated than mutually agreeing to part ways

Drury looking to put more of his own people in place and maybe update some old school techniques and philosophies would be my assumption

There's a pretty big rumor going around that Chris Drury and Jim Ramsay got into a heated conversation, following the outcome of game 4. Apparently Drury was not happy that Ramsay couldn't fix the heart on several players. The conversation ended with Drury throwing band-aids at Ramsay.
