Peca (and Weber) did good work in Rochester. I was hoping he would push up in the the Sabres staff because one area of concern are Granato's assistants while the Amerks have shown appreciable growth both to the forward and defense groups under both assistants the last two years.

Competent and effective coaches.

You could have all the greatest theory's and gameplans but if you don't know how to implement it or coach/teach it, it becomes a problem.

Because he was known as pretty much a coach on the ice for most of his career. McAvoy has stated numerous times how much he learned from Chara in their time together.

People have good things to say about almost every vet player.

I’m not even saying he would be a bad coach, but hiring someone who has zero coaching experience just seems like a pretty risky play.

Remember some people on this board were so excited about alternative stat coach Dallas Eakins? He was the fresh guy around 10 years ago.

Chara may or may not be a great coach. What he does have is discipline and the fact that he took his craft very seriously for 20+ years with the way he trained, his nutrition, and how he presented himself off the ice. He was a student of the game and being a pro.

He struggled greatly as a lanky rookie with the Islanders too for those who remember. He's also a case of someone coming from one of the smaller hockey countries (Slovakia) and successfully integrating to the NHL game and North American life. We've seen some of this teams European prospects have issues with that.

So while he may not be a great coach, we can't really say. He has a presence though.

So did messier. No one has as much of a presence as him.

I want him as far from our bench as possible.

I get that Z isn’t that far removed from playing but these are “nice to have” traits in terms of coaching.

If he helps the Rangers win faceoffs this could be a great hire for that alone.

I like this . Not a crazy amount of coaching experience but certainly enought to make the step to NHL assistant. A 2 time Selke winner he should be able to help some players with their 200ft. game.

Very nice. I like Peca. He was an excellent two-way player. Laviolette hired him in 2021 to work with the taxi squad in Washington. Peca had other responsibilities in Washington. He has spent the last two seasons working in Rochester with the Sabres young forwards. Quinn. Peterka.
