Mike Peca as assistant coach??? Maybe we can just get the entire Islanders roster on too? Is Zigmund Palfy around to help run the powerplay units? This is literally unreal what is happening.

Aren't you the guy who goes around lecturing everyone about being judgmental of Gallant or Drury?

Boy this is the pot calling the kettle black.

I'm surprised that some folks are even slightly turned off by former Islanders (coaches or players) getting an opportunity to coach here.

I'm 90% sure that when hes been an assistant its been as a guy in charge of the D.

Really like this hire

Went the safe route with Laviolette, whos a good coach, albeit ho-hum - but you get a young up-and-coming former solid NHL player/captain who has paid his dues and has the experience and success in developing youth. Nice mix.

Well see who else gets hired but at least this freshens up the bench with some youth, with the possibility of sticking around once Lav leaves

Peca made his NHL bones w Buffalo
But even if they hadn't, you believe the way to build effective coaching staff is to first eliminate any candidates who had any involvement with any rivals?
Sounds like a reach for reasons to second-guess.

I'd rather have a coaching staff full of ex-NHL players and experience behind the bench who happened to play on rival teams than someone with none, a la Trottier.

I have a feeling Peca is going to help Laf, but I think he's going to also help Kakko in regards to PK and defense, where he's already excelled.

Get them both into top 6 and PP roles and keep them there. The offense will improve.

I think the current speculation is that he’ll be hired by Toronto to replace Carbery if he’s offered an NHL assistant job. They have Dean Chenowyth there that runs their defense and PK for Keefe.

It likely wouldn’t be popular, but I wouldn’t mind Hynes as an assistant. His Devils teams always were good on the PK and Nashville was a top PK team last year. His teams never produced offense, but they were usually decent defensively.

I’d still prefer something a bit different. The only person I don’t want to see hired is Kevin McCarthy, which we’ve already discussed a lot in here.
