Confirmed with Link: Rangers Hire Peter Laviolette as Head Coach, Assistants Michael Peca & Dan Muse

Very nice. I like Peca. He was an excellent two-way player. Laviolette hired him in 2021 to work with the taxi squad in Washington. Peca had other responsibilities in Washington. He has spent the last two seasons working in Rochester with the Sabres young forwards. Quinn. Peterka.

Hire a quality assistant for the D.
Good call by you RB, well done

Love the hire

So did messier. No one has as much of a presence as him.

I want him as far from our bench as possible.

I get that Z isn’t that far removed from playing but these are “nice to have” traits in terms of coaching.

I have a tough time believing there aren’t better options than him
I never said he's my choice, only listed traits. You know what Chara hasn't done? Leaked and demanded to the press that he should be the Bruins head coach.

He is an option and I was listing some positives. If McCarthy has had enough I'd expect Giardi to be an option or be given an interview.

I remember Tucker blowing up his knee which was the start of his decline. He came back quickly from that injury IIRC. Then a few years later Vandermeer broke his leg.

Peca was one of those unsung, low-key fantastic team guys. Took important faceoffs, played hard defensive matchups and still products. Not that dissimilar to what Drury was really.

Peca is a great hire. Loved him as a player. Always wished we would sign him, but we were in the midst of signing old players past their prime to retirement contracts.

It's almost like we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Mike Peca as assistant coach??? Maybe we can just get the entire Islanders roster on too? Is Zigmund Palfy around to help run the powerplay units? This is literally unreal what is happening.

Bit of an overreaction, my dude

If the other hire is Mitch Love it’s hard to be upset with the staff as a whole.

Isn't Love an offensive/Forward coach like Peca?

Just having some fun with the absurdity of how- despite having unlimited options for much better assistant coaches who- you know have actually done the job before-- this organization decides to go with a guy who played for the cross town rival and the Buffalo Sabres( granted when they were good.) Just has an odd vibe.

I'm surprised that some folks are even slightly turned off by former Islanders (coaches or players) getting an opportunity to coach here.

Why does it matter??

Because once you play for the Islanders, you'll always be brainwashed and you'll try to sabotage the Rangers.

Bro, I don't care if we had a coaching staff of Marty Brodeur, Denis Potvin, Mario Lemieux and John LeClair. Can they get us to the Stanley Cup or not? That's all I care about. Best men for the job.

The other reason I like the Peca move is this is clearly a coach on the rise. If he sticks with the Rangers for a couple of seasons and the team is looking for a coach at that time, Drury should have a choice between Peca and Knoblauch (among other outside people)

Great, so we'll have to hear from some on here how we just hired Trottier Part Deux...

You really think this is an issue?
Laviolette was a NYR prospect and player
Peca made his NHL bones w Buffalo
But even if they hadn't, you believe the way to build effective coaching staff is to first eliminate any candidates who had any involvement with any rivals?
Sounds like a reach for reasons to second-guess.
Thats your privilege.
But has little to do with what might be best for the team

Flashbacks to Trottier maybe.

Brodeur can never be a Ranger in any way shape or form.

I feel like this is a positive at least.

Is he going to be more responsible for the D or the offense?
