That was probably the best hockey game I have ever seen. The World Cup of Hockey has to come back stronger than ever. Fans and players deserve this. What an absolute treat. I felt like a kid. Saturday just because SO much more fun for me.
I have always felt that the effort/dedication and availability of top players totally outweighs format concerns.
They're all clearly trying their best, and it's not very different from an Olympics semi-finals, with 4 teams left.
Yeah it sucks that Russia is not there, but they likely wouldn't have made the final 4 anyway. They don't defend well enough.

So I'll gladly accept this tournament, regardless of the motives behind it. I care a lot more about results.

Hoping Sid is whispering in all the UFA ears.
"wherever you sign, make sure they have 8.7 free in cap space, if you catch my drift *wink wink*"

So I've been on HF since 2009. A long time, but not quite long enough to answer this question: Why does HF, outside of Pens fans and a few neutrals, have such a hate-on for Sid. I'm not terminally online, so I assumed the hf attitude was the prevailing online attitude towards Sid. Nope, literally anywhere else and it's people of every fan base practically worshiping the guy, calling him a top-5 player of all time (which, obviously, he is), and generally gushing about him.

So why is it whenever I read stuff here it's calling him overrated and talking about his frosted tips? Just crazy. This place (hf in general, not the Pens board) has shitty vibes.

People hate success. Especially here of all places.

Been here since 05’ and from what I remember it was mainly about Sid v. OV and in his early years, Sid would snap his head back pretty ridiculously when high sticked and “whine” while OV steam rolled people and shot the puck a billion times.

So it was mainly Washington/philly fans invading most threads and there were tons of Sid v. OV ones created every day.

Go to any social media post or Reddit thread and you'll see similar types of terminally online people who are emotionally over-invested in a variety of topics. On a forum like this, Crosby - being the face of the NHL for so long - is a lightning rod for that type of negative energy.

International teams games often don't live up to the hype generated by the star-studded rosters and the importance of the game in question. This wasn't one of those games. Sweden could use more from Zibanejad and Petterson but I guess it's a bit hard against Canada's gazillion star centers.

And, of course, nice to see that the Pens players can do very well against the very best. When the coach isn't living in 2016, that is.

It sounds weird, but I think it’s that some people just don’t have room in their hearts for both of them.

Also, there are a few posters who are super pro-Russia. (OV fans more than anything)

It's fun to watch Sid play with real talent again.
When did Sid ever play with the likes of Mackinnon? Or for that matter, Marner. Mark Stones of the league he has played with a ton of.

Considering, Geno was rarely on his line and injured just about every season, and Jake being the closest to anything resembling a true top star in the league, when has he ever played with such players since the 2016 world cup where he was named MVP and he was paired with Marchand and Bergeron with both young McDavid and Mackinnon playing only 3 games each asks when did he ever play with such high elite generational talent on his line. Mack wasn't who he is for a couple years, and McDavid was a rookie.

Answer is: Never.

Well very few elite players ever play with top 5-10 players in the league on their line - maybe McDavid and Draistl but that's about it. The best player Sid played with was probably Hossa.

Sid on another team is an MVP candidate. If anything the tournament is showing how much he’s sacrificing being on a sinking ship.

I get that, but I would think it would still be a little more even on hfb. Like, he's Canada and has done amazing things for Canada internationally, but this site, specifically, makes it out like he's a bum

Ah, my bad. Can't recall who Sid played with in Vancouver or Sochi but I presume Bergeron and Marchand in Sochi...but that could be wrong.

IIRC it was Nash-Crosby-Iginla in Vancouver and Kunitz-Crosby-Bergeron in Socchi.

I remember that Crosby had such difficulty finding chemistry with linemates in Vancouver that they brought Kunitz to the 2014 Olympics in Socchi. It's funny now because it seems like the complete opposite, Crosby seems to mesh immediately with talented linemates at the international level now.

Canada - Sweden was fantastic.
Sweden - Finland is going to be even better.
Canada - US is probably gonna be absolutely insane.

Sid doing Sid stuff. Dude is 37 and still one of the best players in the world. Interested to see how the US does tonight. Will they be Bylsma in Sochi, or does Sully prove he's not quite that bad?

This was the first full hockey game I've actually watched the entirety of over the past two seasons. It's been forever since a]I went into the game and actually felt my team had a chance of winning the game and b]I could actually enjoy what I was watching and not wonder why hockey turned into watching paint dry.

It's been a while since I knew what that felt like.
Sullivan is here for another two years and maybe three if Sid wants him to go out with him …so it’s going to be a long drought of hockey enjoyment in Pittsburgh unfortunately

I've been on this place since the mid 2000's and there always seemed to be a disdain for anyone who was successful, especially anyone who is consistently and historically successful.

The board is actually 10X better about Sid and appreciating him compared to his first 8 or so years in the league.

The boards were ruthless about him his first 4 years in the league. You'd think he was punting babies and eating kittens the way he was regarded around here. He allegedly stink palmed all the 09' Wings that he actually got to in the handshake line, after telling Lidstrom to go fly a kite and that they'd be shaking hands on Sid's schedule, if at all, because Sid didn't respect him and was a punk. Then people were still calling him a diver, saying he was a whiner, that he was a bust because he only had one cup, that he didn't contribute to winning the cup much because his #s in the back to back finals. They said that his season when he broke his neck was an outlier and the small spurts of high PPG showings over the next few years were easily attainable in such a small sample size, that he was going to go down as more of a Kariya/Lindros what-if than a Mario or Orr what-if.

I think I started noticing a change when he went to the Worlds in 2015 and won gold with Canada, and then he had that awful start where the next season with MJ and people thought he was cooked, and then we got Sully and he/the Pens went on to win the Cup in 2016 with him taking home the Conn Smythe. It really started to change after that at the World Cup in 2016 where he seemed to finally have weight off his shoulders and really enjoy playing hockey and led Canada to a gold and winning MVP. He got another Richard in '17, along with another Cup and the back-to-back- Conn Smythe and then the board kind of came around to where we are now.

I know its probably not the recognition he deserves on here, but Ill assume its a bunch of neck-beards in Philadelphia throwing up 100 posts a day on HF on their mothers basement desk-top that will always be the root cause of this issue, as its been since 2005.
