Igor gonna start doing this with Roy as coach:

Works for me. Whatever gets him to stop missing empty nets by less than a foot.

Tired of NYR never having had a goalie goal.

Mark Ciaccio for head coach
YES! THIS! 100% THIS!

Seriously guys....think about it. When he sucks, they will HAVE to fire him. This would be a win.

Not sure why you guys bought into the Roy hype. Guy hasn't proven a damn thing, and in the time he had in the NHL his teams sucked at the most important part of the game. I'm not inspired by Laviolette or Hynes either but Roy sucks too. There's only one good retread coach available and he comes with baggage and might not even be allowed to coach again.

Roy might suck, but at least it has potential to be interesting. Laviolette would be boring and Hynes... Just no.

The guy who would try and win 2-1 every game even realized how boring Hynes was.

Hynes was just let go by new Predators GM Barry Trotz, who pointedly said when bringing in Andrew Brunette that he wanted Nashville to “become more of an offensive team.”

Both Laviolette and Hynes are known for installing systems that emphasize an attacking forecheck and a strong defensive structure, sometimes to the detriment of creating offense. A former player who was with Hynes when the coach was a rising star with the Penguins’ AHL affiliate from 2010-15 said the team’s practices were “some of the most intense, high-energy practices I’d ever had, at any level… There was a purpose to all of it, he wasn’t making you skate just to grind you down, but you had to be moving with intent. He wanted his guys to be ready to skate that way in games.”

Hynes sounding pretty decent in that regard.

Look, I know there is a groundswell here for Roy, but that seems to me more of a reaction to how lackluster the other possibilities are and how little Lavi seems to bring to the table.

It wasn't that Roy was not a good coach in Colorado or isn't now; the reason why he was let go was that he wanted control over player acquisition, etc. No GM is going to hire a coach with that kind of track record. He was literally run out of the NHL and coaches who are let go, not for poor performance or underachievement, but for clashing with management, rarely get rehired.

If this rumor that the Rangers do not consider him a possibility is true, and honestly, who knows, than I have no idea where Drury goes. Hiring a coach almost by default and by the process of elimination is poor management. The situation with Gallant must have been far worse than any of us could imagine. If nothing else, Gallant proved that he was a winning coach. What happened to the team in the playoffs cannot be blamed totally on him: Drury's trade philosophy failed, the players underperformed. Drury has put himself in a bad situation.

I have felt that hiring Roy was either going to be a flaming success or a colossal failure, with little middle ground. And to me, failure was more likely than success. Part of me, though attracted to Roy's passion, is relieved that he will not be hired.

Maybe Drury circles back to a younger coach (I have no problem with Leach or Knoblauch). I don't think Drury had a plan here, he was so desperate to can GG.

Way back in, I think 1989, the Rangers did not hire a coach (Roger Neilson) until mid-August. The front office was in turmoil and literally nobody wanted to coach the team. It's not that bad now but it will soon become dire. If Roy is out, I'm not upset, in fact relieved.

I mean, Gallant also had a rep for clashing with management before coming to NY and we once again saw that happen.
I can't say that their playoff collapse can totally be blamed on him but a whole lot of it can be IMO. That part is going to be somewhat a matter of opinion as not everyone is going to see it the same way but the lack of clear tactics and gameplan after the first two games was clear and damming to me. I also think it was a dumb and stupid idea to trade for Kane but in the end Drury did give Gallant two legitimate top six forwards to improve the lineup at the deadline and Gallant couldn't find a way to make it work either.

As for Miller, your criticism of his play in Tampa isn't really warranted. Miller had been typecast as a typical, boring ass, two-way, kinda skilled responsible 50 point player with the Rangers.

I kinda don't agree with this. Miller looked/had a rep of being a really talented player with high potential but with attitude problems (that actually still somewhat continue in Vancouver to this day). He was traded mainly because the Rangers didn't feel they wanted to pay him the contract he'd demand and because of those attitude problems (he very very very visably quite on the team in a way I've never seen a player do once that rebuild letter went out).

Don't read Staple's article. Drury has no idea what he is doing. He has no clue or imagination. We are in trouble with Drury.

I just read it and really didn't get that ^^^^ out of it.

I mean, he HAD to fire Gallant after that insipid playoff series. Had to. Whether or not he knew what the next step was is meaningless.

And Staple isn't exactly the whose who of having ANY kind of insider info. I'll take his take on Roy with a huge grain of salt.

I was not crazy about the Gorton and JD firing, and so far Drury has not impressed me.
I'd feel a lot better with Gorton and JD at the helm but I do think it's true they were too cautious in trying to spin up this team as a playoff contender and that's a huge reason they got fired. They could have made more of the moves to get this team moving in that direction early and not have been selling the farm or rushing things but were just way too cautious even after going out and signing Panarin and all that

Anyways, I also think saying "they fired Gallant without a plan!" is dumb to say. I dont' think many teams really go out and already have a new head coach picked out at this point. If they really wanted one of the guys who has already been hired they'd have pushed harder to get them.

Maybe it’s all been a dog and pony show to buy time for Q both in terms of being reinstated and letting the initial reaction blow over
